Its hard to believe that August is here already. Where have the months gone? I hope everyone has been enjoying the great weather, perfect for holi- days, although we were wishing for rain at night. The pool table is up and I have seen several men playing. It certainly is an asset to the Centre. It also meant we had to re arrange the lounge furniture, and that certainly is much more welcoming with the sofas nearer the entrance. Now we see people actually sit- ting and enjoying them. In fact several people made the comment, Have you purchased new furniture? They never noticed them before. The Thursday afternoon Bid Euchre ladies and man were enjoying themselves last Thursday and Frances Hogenbirk had a mooner. We had a lack of commu- nication last week. Muriel Dzierla told me she also had a mooner last week, and it wasnt in the paper. Its in now Muriel! Congratula- tions to both. Hopefully lots of people will stop and stay to help at the Leathertown Festival. We will have a booth near the Baptist Church. Some of the beautiful crafts, carv- ings, paintings, and tole pictures will be on dis- play to show how talented the Acton Seniors are. We will be there to inform you about the different activities and programs we offer at the Centre, and hopefully we will meet some of the people who have recently made the move to Acton. It is also interesting to talk to people who used to live in Acton and decided to visit this particular week, so they could catch up on any changes. The downtown is cer- tainly looking beautiful with the lovely baskets and planters. Knowing how hard it is to keep my few baskets and containers looking lush, I have to ad- mire the hard work of Josey and her crew. Forty-six ladies enjoyed the trip to Mohawk race track for dinner last Monday evening. It was a combined trip of the Gals on the Go and the Leathertown Lass- ies Red Hats. Some enjoyed a glass of wine after dinner, while watching the horses racing. Others took time to visit the Slots, hoping to win a little more. May Hoare was unable to accompany us as she fell and broke her hip the weekend before. Hopefully she is well on the road to recovery. I understand the surgery went well, and she was up and walking shortly after. It takes a lot to keep May down. The 50/50 has not been won for the last two weeks, so the pot is growing. It should be almost $170 by next Friday. Halton Regional Council approved $3.1 million on July 11for an Expression of Interest and proposal call to prevent and address homelessness in Halton. The funds are from the Region, the Province and the Federal governments Homelessness Partnering Strategy. The funds made avail- able for the Expression of Interest represents a major step in achieving the short- term priorities regarding homelessness in Haltons Comprehensive Housing Strategy. The Strategy incor- porates a series of policies and actions to ensure a va- riety of affordable housing types for Halton residents, regardless of income and stage of life. The priorities being ad- dressed will help people retain their housing, assist homeless individuals and families with temporary housing and supports to help them regain perma- nent housing, and support projects for homeless youth and families in all Halton- municipalities. The Request for Expres- sion of Interest will be issued during this month and will close in September, 2007. Halton fights homelessness TREE OF HOPE: ecognizing the many hours of volunteering Flo Rocher has put in over 15 years. Margaret Anderson, President of the Acton Seniors Centre presented Flo Rochers daughter Marlene and son Rick and his wife Jane with the card signed by members of the Acton Seniors Centre. The money collected was used to purchase two commemorative leaves on our Tree of Hope (Building to the future) in Flo and Charlies names. The balance was donated to the Acton Cancer society in their name.- Julie Conroy photo an organizations banner. In such a case, the National Flag should be in the center with the provincial/territorial flag to the left and the municipal flag/organizations banner to the right (to an observer fac- ing the display). Many have stopped to say how nice they look and I think they dress up the old Mackenzie building very nicely. Thanks, Ian Pasmore Flag etiquette... Predeceased by her husband Paul (1986). Mom was a gentle loving soul who will be missed by her sons Robert (Lynda), Werner (Madeline) and grandson Brett. Mom did not wish to have a funeral service, but a memorial service will be held at a later date. Heartfelt thanks to the staff of Eden House and extended Care Facility. Your exemplary care and respect allowed Mom to die with dignity. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
