N ACTON 519-853-1970 I hope everyone had an en- joyable holiday weekend. Dont forget this Sunday (August 12) is Leathertown Festival. We hope you will take the time to find our booth and say Hello to us; we will have lots of interesting things to talk about, and show you. The town is always full of people meeting old friends and making new ones on that day. Last Friday was the month- ly Pot Luck, and some people seem to have forgotten the meaning of Pot Luck. It means everyone brings their favourite dish to share with others. There was always a charge if you couldnt for some reason bring (or buy) a dish that week, but I hear that more and more people are opting to pay rather than bring a dish. It means there may not be sufficient food for everyone when too many people choose this option. Please take the time to prefer- ably make, or buy something it you are coming to the dinners. Thinking of great food, our first social dinner for the fall season will be on September 13. I am sure everyone will be looking forward to what Victor and his crew will be creating in the way of entertainment and food on that day. If you are like me and the brain takes a holiday during the hot weather, just a couple of reminders: For all Board members, the monthly board meeting will be on August 22 at 1:00p.m. There will be no shuffle- board on Friday, August 31. The community hall has a prior booking. Mary asked me to men- tion the great fall trip on Friday, October 12. You will have lunch at the Viamede Resort, followed by a cruise on the Chippewa 11 replica steamboat. You will have a two hour boat ride along one of the most beautiful lakes in Ontario and cruise around some of the 1,128 charted islands of Stoney and Clear Lakes. The trips to see Okla- homa in Stratford, and to the Niagara Casino are both full (unless more seats become available). The fundraising commit- tee have been busy at work, and have tickets available for both the beautiful hand-made queen size quilt and shams, and the lovely picture by Fern Jory. There is a great selec- tion of prizes at the penny sale table behind the recep- tion desk. Spend a little, and get a great chance of winning something really lovely. I have discovered since joining the Centre that Se- niors love taking a chance on winning something, whether at the casinos, raffles, or the weekly 50/50 draws. There were no mooners at last weeks Bid Euchre, but lots of 18 wheelers. (It sounds like a truck rally). The next evening euchre will be on Wednesday, Au- gust 15 at 7:15 p.m. As usual there will be prizes, and a light lunch. The Gals on the Go have recovered from their trip to Mohawk, and I noticed a few had big smiles, so they did well at the Slots. Even I managed to come out a little ahead at the races, but everyone agreed it was a great evening. The dinner was excellent, and the com- pany lots of fun. We even had our groups name on the program, and on the board welcoming us. The next planned trip will be to the St Lawrence Market on Saturday, Sept. 8. Ladies, sign up if you are interested. It is nice to see the pool table being put to use. It is a little bit of a squeeze when I am trying to use the computer (I can feel an elbow in my back) but we are being friend- ly and sharing the space. Also, it is nice to see new people coming in to the Cen- tre to join. Hopefully they will all find something to interest them. The 50/50 draw was not won again this week, so it should be over $200 by next Friday. To the editor: On Sunday, August 5, my husband and I went to a friends for dinner. Upon our return home we discov- ered that the Angel figurines that we had in our front yard were gone. These are of no value. They are sentimental value to my husband and I be- cause they were given to us in memory of our daughter April who passed away June 16/05. It pains my heart to see them gone. I would ask the person or persons who took the figu- rines to please return them. I dont know why someone would want to take them, but please find it in your heart to return them where they belong.
