This is one area I wanted to see improve when I was first elected mayor. We have all benefitted from these partnerships. The Town has been able to expedite many recreation projects totaling over $3 million, thanks to over $1 million raised from people who care in our Town. This is what I am talking about. In the Spring, I told you about the Georgetown Slo Pi tch League donat ing $100,000 towards a new $600,000 lighted ball dia- mond. More recently, the Georgetown Soccer League and the Georgetown Baseball Association have once again stepped up to the plate with a $5,000 donation towards renovations to Diamond 1 at the Gellert Community Park. A further in kind donation from Mark Cootes, Keith Gillert, and others has been received to complete the work. We have seen other fine examples of groups in our community partnering with the Town in bringing for- ward huge Capital recreation projects. The Acton Soccer Association donated $100,000 towards a new $500,000 lighted soccer pitch, and the Acton Skateboard Action Park Committee have raised over $100,000 towards the new $266,000 Three Muske- tears Skateboard Park. Both the Georgetown and Acton Soccer Associations partnered with the Acton Agricultural Society and the Town in building a beautiful $2 million indoor soccer fa- cility. Also, the new Rotary Park Bandshell in Acton was another excellent partner- ship. * * * * Join in the celebration! Limehouse will be celebrat- ing 150 years (1857 2007) on Saturday, August 25 at the Limehouse Memorial Hall from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Planned events include dis- plays and guided tours. Jean Somerville will speak on the history of Limehouse, and Mark Rowe will conduct short walking tours. On Sunday, August 26 at 9:30 a.m., a church service will be held at the Lime- house Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Jim Cooper officiating. * * * * Don Fendley, when you come up with an idea, you come up with a good one! Don came up with the idea of the Georgetown Homecom- ing 2007. A big round of applause is extended to the organizing committee for bringing to us an outstanding and memorable event. People came to Georgetown from near and far to partake in the festivities. From start to finish, it was an exciting weekend. Old friendships were rekindled and are back on track as everyone reconnected by swapping e-mail addresses, home addresses, and tele- phone numbers. * * * * It is with deep sadness that I have just learned of the passing of another longtime School Board Trustee, Irene McCauley. Our community is still mourning the recent pass- ing of Ethel Gardiner who also provided many dedicated years to our education system here in Halton Hills. * * * * I hope that you have been enjoying the summer. The biggest complaint is that we havent had enough rain. Council would like to applaud our citizens for following the water restrictions. It is important to conserve water during these times as the Town must have water for fire protection. A simple way to save water and save your money is not to run the tap when you brush your teeth. Studies have proven that you lose between three to five litres of water every time you do this. * * * * On behalf of Council, I welcome the following new businesses to Georgetown: Silvercreek Paints, Wild Wings, and Dominion Lend- ing Centres. * * * * Keeping it real! I can be reached by telephone at 905- 873-2601, ext. 2342, or by e-mail at mayor@haltonhills. ca. Volunteer and sports organizations excellent partners with the Town Two reported thefts of a boat and motors in Hillsburgh and area Friday and Saturday of last week concerned Wellington OPP. Officers responded to a reported stolen boat, motor and trailer from a home on the north end of Hillsburgh early Friday morning (6a.m.). The boat, a 2007 Legend 16ft Exterminator, white with a beige strip under a white tarpaulin carried a 40hp Mercury outboard motor on a Shor trailer, white with Ontario plate # D9379B. Value of the three is about $18,000. The following day, Saturday Aug. 11, police responded to a report of two stolen boat motors from Hi-Top Equipment & Marine located on Wellington Rd. 22, west of Hillsburgh. Both motors were on boats brought to the business for servicing, a 25ph Johnson outboard and a 20hp Yamaha outboard. Total value is about $8,000. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the OPP at their Rockwood office at 519-856-1506 or leave an anonymous tip with CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Thieves hit boat, motors in Hillsburgh and area Acton Villas U18 Girls, generously sponsored by R & E Thomas Renovations, conceded a goal in the 27th minute to Bolton2 and fell behind 1-0 despite hav- ing three great scoring chances of their own and an advantage in possession time. After a slow start to the second half Robin Spiers scored on a nice feed from Nicole Pitre in the 79th minute to draw Acton even. In the 84th minute on a pretty three way passing play that started in the midfield with Alaina Mills who found striker Spiers with her pass, and who in turn spotted Ellen Hannah with a nice feed, to score the winning goal in a 2-1 Acton victory. Honourable mention to Amanda Brake who played a strong two way game for Acton. U-18 Girls edge Bolton D.
