Oshkosh Wisconsin is home to the Experimental Aviation Association (EAA) museum where an amaz- ing air show is held every summer. Visiting Oshkosh this summer was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I am Warrant Officer 2nd Class Chris Legge, and I was selected to go to the Os- hkosh National Exchange Course this summer. Forty- five cadets and four escort officers from across Canada participated in this trip from July 13 to July 31. The Oshkosh Exchange provides an opportunity for cadets to participate in various aspects of aviation that are not covered in their home squadron training programs. It is also an op- portunity for cadets to meet their colleagues from other provinces while visiting another country as part of their education in cultural and international affairs. Over 10,000 pilots fly their aircraft to EAA to view this amazing air show called Air Venture. During the seven days of the show the airport at Oshkosh is the busiest in the world. While most air shows provide en- tertainment for two to four hours, this show provided thrills for three or four hours per day for a whole week. While some acts performed daily, there were special theme segments each day as well. The Royal Canadian Air Cadet Oshkosh exchange is reserved for those cadets who applied and qualified for a flight scholarship but did not obtain a placement this year. Did I mention the trip was free? Not only was it free but we received a training bonus just for go- ing; thats right you get paid to meet new friends, meet pilots, and best of all view one of the most spectacular air shows the world has to offer. The Royal Canadian Air Cadets 197 Typhoon Squadron parades every Tuesday evening beginning at 6:45pm during the school year. If you would like to find out how you can be apart of this amazing youth program for ages 12-17 come to our opening night September 11.
