Far from ordinary Former Georgetown teacher carries Liberal banner... Continued from page 1 Continued from page 1 Think its a bomb dont move... Project Safe Start kicked off Tuesday Born in Barrie The new Liberal candi- date was born in Barrie, the daughter of a farmer and raised on a farm in South Simcoe. Her early schooling took place in a one room country school house. Later she graduated from Barrie Central Colle- giate, earned a B.A. degree in Latin and French from Victoria College, University of Toronto, and then se- cured her Masters degree in French Literature from the University of Toronto. She is married to architect Tom Bentley and has lived in Georgetown since 1968. She is proud of her two sons who pursue active lives in the area. Bentley was a teacher at Georgetown District High School for 32 years, teaching Latin, French, and History. She was depart- ment Head of Moderns for 14 years. When she retired in 2000, Bentley took on the challenge of being a supply teacher with the Halton Board up to this year. Bentley has led various youth groups in church and school, and as an el- der is working on various committees in her church. She enjoys the outdoors, including skiing in winter and golf in summer. In her spare time, she spends time in the library ferreting out books she loves and travel- ling with her husband. age they are concerned about, not to move it. Call police and report it imme- diately. Explosive Disposal Officers are trained experts. They have equipment to properly examine suspi- cious packages. Moving the package increases the risk to the recipient and to others. Police are encourag- ing everyone to report the finding of any packages, containers or objects that appear unusual or out of place. Such items will re- quire investigation and identification by a qualified police member. Halton Regional Police are now operating a high en- forcement, educational traffic initiative that commenced on Tuesday of this week and concludes on Friday, Sep- tember 14. The project, started last year, dubbed Safe Start, is again being undertaken to remind the driving public of the need to be courteous to other drivers and our children particularly at this time when they make their way back to school. The project is a regional response utilizing the District Response Enforcement Units and District Patrol officers. This will maximize the effect of the project by ensuring that every available officer is focusing attention on the program. Officers will be focusing on the five Ss: 1. Speeding; 2. Seatbelts; 3. Stop Signs; 4. School Zones; 5. School Buses. The project is ongoing and will be maintained year round. Initial efforts are dubbed Safe Start as the project is being kicked off as children return to school. It is designed to encourage the community to comply with the Provinces legislated driving laws and ensure a safer driving and pedestrian environment. READ THE TANNER To the editor, Just writing to express my frustration regarding the class lists. I was told by our school secretary that the list has never been available before the last day before school starts. But I am quite sure that that was not the case last year, and we were able to see it approximately a week before school started. Just a short drive to Guelph and a jump to a different school board and what a difference. They have it so to- gether there that the children are notified on their report cards of their teacher for the next year. I have CCd the local newspaper and a few of the other frustrated parents who I am sure, like me, would like to know why. Why are we not allowed to know who our childs teacher is going to be until the Friday before they are scheduled to return to school. Thank-you for your time, I hope you will be able to an- swer our questions and change this policy for next year. Regards, Christina McCauley Class list frustration
