The offi cial opening begins at 8 am, with Acton Citizens of the Year Bill and Diane Spielvogel, Mayor Rick Bonnette and Miss Acton Fall Fair cutting the ribbon. Participants can arrive any time between 8 am and 3 pm, and pledge forms are available at many locations around town, including banks, Prosper- ity One, Acton Home Hardware, Sobeys, Giant Tiger, Leathertown Lumber, and all schools. As well as raising money specifi cally for cancer research, the Terry Fox Foundation continues to share the story of Terry, and to maintain the disci- pline, commitment and integrity that he exhibited throughout his 1980 Marathon of Hope, as he raised awareness among Canadians as to the rav- ages of cancer and the need to fi nd a cure. During the last 26 years, there has been great progress in cancer research. Almost 60% of people diagnosed with cancer in Canada today will survive. Incidence rates for most cancers are stabilizing or declining. Death rates for childhood cancers have fallen by more than 50% since the 1950s. Cancer treatments are more effective and have Continued on page 2 Continued on page 3 By Rebecca Ring Crystal Nova Boarder was charged with manslaughter after her 46-year old hus- band Tony Boarder was found dead at their property in Rockwood on Saturday, September 8. County of Wellington OPP were called to the home on Hwy #7 just before 5 AM, where a male had stopped breath- ing. Officers found Mr. Boarder unresponsive and were unable to revive him. His 30-year old wife was later charged. A neighbour says that Tony Boarder lived in the house, his childhood home, with his wife and two young sons and a young adult male boarder. The neighbour adds that the investigation seemed to be focused at a building next to the house, which was a barn or shed. According to Media Of- ficer Mark Cloes, about three offi cers from the Fo- rensics Identifi cation Unit, fi ve uniformed offi cers, ten staff sergeants and detective inspectors arrived on the scene.
