I didnt see too many happy smiling faces, so I guess the casino came out the winner. Im glad to hear Isabel Nichols is home after spending part of the afternoon at the Niagara hospital. She was enjoying the buffet dinner when a piece of meat lodged in her throat. Luckily Dave Ma- loney was sitting near by and jumped into action with the Heimlich manoeuvre and managed to dislodge it so she could breathe. The casino and ambulance per- sonnel were very efficient. After she was checked out, Isabel was returned safely home. The monthly trip to Rama wasnt nearly as exciting, and the 50/50 draw was won by Gwen Pemberton and Stephanie Westaway. The lucky birthday by Ruth Burke. Sitting in the lucky seats were Tony Caluc- ci, Betty Brewer, Sylvia Fisher, Eric Heptner and Yvonne Van der Heyden. The next trip will be Sep- tember 26. The Gerri fashion show was well attended, and we should see some very smart and fashionable ladies in Acton judging by the sales before and after the show. It was really nice to hear that many of the fashions featured were actually man- ufactured in Canada. Its getting harder and harder to Shop Canadian, it seems. Seven Acton Seniors Cen- tre models showed of the clothing to its best advan- tage under the direction of the commentator Lyrell Waldie. Behind the scenes keeping everything running smoothly were Gerri staff Elizabeth Hamilton and Maureen LaPalme. Some ladies were lucky enough to win door prizes and vouchers. Dont forget to make a point of coming to Seniors Information Showcase co- hosted by the Acton and Georgetown Seniors Cen- tres, plus Links 2 Care, on Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 10a. m. to 3p.m. There will be lots to interest everyone, especially those 55 and over. Acton Seniors Centre will have their own Open House in their adjoining facility at the same time, so you can drop in and see what we have to offer you! If you are interested in line dancing please stop in and sign up on the ap- propriate sheet. It will be on Wednesday afternoons again this year starting soon we hope. The hiking club is eagerly back walking the various trails around the Hills, and thinking about fitness. We offer two ex- ercise classes, one gentle exercise, and the other Fit and Fun. To participate in these classes you have to be a member of the Centre, but the Tai chi class, led by instructor Wilf Rauser, is a Town program and open to everyone. Of course, the dedicated ladies who play Bid Euchre on Thursday afternoons never did take time off and played right through the summer. Last Thurs- day, Shirley Hunter had a mooner, and I slipped up again last week and re- ported Frances Hogenbirk had one mooner; well it was two. Sorry, Frances. A message from the lunch committee. Deadline for signing up for lunch is Wednesday by 4p.m. Lunch will not be available after 12.30p.m. This way every- one can enjoy their lunch together, and get cleaned up ready for bingo at a reason- able hour. One other thing to note effective Friday, Oct. 5 all participants of the pot luck lunch are requested to make a homemade dish. If you are unable to make something you are encour- aged to purchase and bring a prepared dish that can be incorporated into the pot luck lunch. For those one of a kind exceptions, when you are unable to cook or purchase a dish you will be able to pay $10, under- standing this is not a regular occurrence. There is lots of interest in the train trip from Oran- geville to the Forks of the Credit. If you have signed up please pay by Sept. 14. If you would like to go there are still a couple of spots left. It looks as if we will have a full buffet din- ing car for the event. The 50/50 draw on Fri- day, Sept. 7 totalled just over $475 and was won by Irene Breen. Congratula- tions, Irene. TEMPTATION: Jill Tet- reault was happy showing off a lovely dress. She was hoping Real her husband would find the right oc- casion to take her out, so she would have an excuse to buy it. Julie Conroy Photo LINE UP OF BEAUTIES:Suzanne Blanchet-Haffey, Jill Tetreault, Betty Holmes, Marj Allan, Doreen McIntyre, Marj MacFarlane, and Teresa Downey, were the very profes- sional models at the fashion show by Gerri Fashions at the Acton Seniors Centre on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
