ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING An Acton man has been charged in connection with an accident early yesterday that killed a mother and daughter travelling on Highway 401. Elizabeth Thom and Ash- ley Garrod were travelling eastbound on Highway 401 near Wellington Road when, during heavy rain, their car spun out of control and was hit by a transport truck around 4 a.m. The truck apparently hit the cars passenger side. Police allege the driver left the scene and was discovered two hours later after officers searched local truck stops. Inside the parked truck, the driver first refused to leave the cab, police allege. Stefan Fogiel, 61, of Acton has been charged with two counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing death, resisting ar- rest, failing to maintain log books and failing to have a pre-trip inspection according to reports. Fogiel was ordered to be kept in custody until his video court appearance. He has requested a Polish interpreter for his court ap- pearances. Acton driver charged Terry Fox on Marathon Marathon of Hope... Continued from page 2 fewer side effects. Children and youth who have the same bone cancer Terry had will survive their disease today, and most will not lose af- fected limbs. In 1999, during a visit to Acton, Terrys mother, Betty Fox stopped at the crest of the hill on the Veterans High- way as it enters Acton, to install a new sign on the large community board. It reads Acton A Proud Terry Fox Run Community. The sign proudly proclaims our towns longstanding commitment to Terrys cause. During his marathon of hope, Terry once said, even if I dont finish, we need others to continue. Its got to keep going without me. Please join us this Sunday, and bring a friend or relative, as we continue Terrys dream of finding a cure for cancer. A single dream, a world of hope! Jon Hurst
