THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2007 THE NEW TANNER 3 Investigation Branch is leading the investigation conducted by members of the County of Welling- ton OPP Crime Unit and OPP West Region Crimi- nal Operations. Police are asking that anyone with information regarding this investigation contact the County of Wellington OPP Rockwood office at 519- 856-1506. rs. Boarder is currently in custody and will appear for a bail hearing on September 13 at 2 PM at the Ontario Criminal Court of Justice in Guelph. An autopsy was conducted in Hamilton but the cause of death has not been released and no other details are available. Cloes says such information is evidence in nature, and therefore is restricted while the case is before the courts. He adds that the there is no concern for public safety. Tony Boarder had a vio- lent, criminal past. In 1987, he was convicted of man- slaughter and served eight years in prison. He strangled to death 19-year old Susan Porter of Rockwood. Her body was discovered in a shallow grave on November 15, 1985, in a conservation area south of Guelph with handcuffs attached to her wrist. The girl knew her killer, as his brother was married to her sister. Por- ter had gone missing over the Labour Day weekend after leaving her sisters home with plans to visit a friend and go to the Guelph Farmers Market. Boarder was arrested in June 1986 at his apartment in Guelph that he shared with his girl- friend. In 1994, two years after his release from prison, Boarder was charged with aggravated sexual assault. The charge was dismissed in court after the complainant claimed she had consent- ed to having a plastic bag placed over her head and being choked during sexual activity. Present, Past & Future ROCKWOOD WOMAN CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER: Police found Tony Boarder dead at his property in Rockwood early Saturday. His wife, Crystal Nova Boarder was charged with manslaughter. This building was the site of the police inves- tigation. Rebecca Ring Photo The home of Angela and Brian Blackwood on Dairy Drive, Acton echoed with the sounds of many ham- mers at work last Saturday morning, as parents as- sisted their children in the building of bird houses for the natural open space adjacent to their homes. With materials donated by Leathertown Lumber, Mr. Blackwood oversaw the building of the 25 bird boxes, autographed by the children and placed in the open space at key points. Other neighbours joined in to help with the planting of native trees and shrubs such as spruce, cedar and silver maple in order to improve the natural en- vironment. A new trail constructed by the Town this summer from Danville Avenue to Dr. Moore Court has formalized the link through the area, and will benefit from the additional plantings done over the weekend. Despite the dry conditions and summer-like heat, residents persevered to install around 90 trees and shrubs. Its great to see so many neighbours out working together said Mayor Rick Bonnette. Im pleased to see residents taking an ac- tive part in programs like this, and appreciate the ef- forts of the neighbours and staff who worked together to make it a real success. The neighbourhood party was a result of discussions last year when future plans for park development in Acton were presented to the public. The planting and bird house installation supplement trail and play- ground projects that have been installed in the area in 2006 and 2007.
