Miss Acton Emily Stirtzinger, Runner Up Madison Kotack and 2nd Runner Up Cassandra Stokes. - Angela Tyler photo If you thought the month of August was warm and dry youre in tune with Environment Canada which says parched conditions were typical across Ontario with very few excep- tions. August temperatures were slightly above normal, not the torrid temperatures predicted earlier in the year. The big story about August was the lack of rain except for Windsor and Sarnia in southwestern Ontario, which received much needed moisture. Environment Canada says the province as a whole got only one-third of the normal amount of precipitation. During the late afternoon and evening hours of Wednesday, August 29 a band of powerful thunderstorms moved through Southern On- tario, breaking the parched August weather. Accompanying it was some pea-sized hail August temperatures slightly higher Another record breaker.... day. The Miss Acton Fall Fair Pageant drew the most contestants ever with 13 competing for the title. The Elvis show, which featured three Elvis imperson- ators, had a packed house Saturday night to enjoy Elvis is in the building. Over 500 children en- joyed Education Day on Friday during the day where it gave them a good opportunity to fi nd their rural heritage. The Country Western show on Sunday after- noon featuring Alysha Brooks was another attraction in the new building. The Fair Board had Nancy Gordon at the en- trance to the soccer fi eld acting as a WalMart Greeter and her po- lite introduction to the rules of walking on the turf were understood and complied, said the buildings administrator Mike OLeary. The annual parade was possible despite construction on Main St., OLeary said, al- though it only had two weeks to organize. King Construction paved a temporary portion of the street on Main N. to accommodate the parade which received deep appreciation for their thoughtfulness from the Fair Board. Of course, always one of the main attractions at the Fair is the mid- way and it was there in full splendour with special rides for the younger children and challenging ones for the not so young. Interest in the new building was intense, of course, and OLeary says he has already received calls from people want- ing to book time these for lacrosse and soccer, including Rockwood teams. There was even one for a kids birthday party. Continued from Page 1
