BRANCH NO. 197 Comrades, We welcome the delegates to the District B Convention, and wish you an enjoyable visit to our branch and the town of Acton. Comrade George ODonnell, Branch Poppy Chairman, re- ports everything is in place for this years campaign. Now he needs your support to put the Poppies in the street. The cadets in our town, and the vets in our town make the effort; its once a year, and whether you remember or not you pledged to take an active part in the annual campaign when you joined the Legion. As always we have members who work hard to make the campaign a success, with your help it can be a bigger success. The funds raised are used in part, to provide comfort to our veterans and their dependents that need our aid. The distribution of poppy boxes to the stores and busi- nesses will be on Friday, Oct. 26. The door to door blitz will be on Friday, Nov. 2. Sgt. At Arms, Tom Grant is still looking for a couple of Colour Bearers for the upcom- ing parades; it would be nice to have a few spares. Training is provided. His, and our thanks are extended to the Branch and Ladies Auxiliary colour par- ties for their excellent fall fair parade presentation. His daughter Rebecca has the most important job holding the ladder. The decommissioned plane was placed beside the Legion by helicopter in 1975. Speeder of the Week On Sunday September 30, 2007 at about 4:32pm Wellington OPP Constable Shaugn Rogers was pa- trolling Wellington Road 22 east of Wellington Road 26 monitoring traffic, when he observed a 2005 Pon- tiac travelling westbound at a very high rate of speed. An Erin man has been charged with Speeding at 151km/h in the posted 80-km/h zone. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph court on November 7. Drinking & Driving On Sunday October 7, at about 1:08am Wellington OPP officers responded to a report of an auto in the ditch on Wellington Road 124. Officers found a 2001 Chevy van in the ditch and the driver had been drinking. A 33 year-old Guelph man has been charged with Impaired Driving, Over 80 mgs and Breach of Probation. He is sched- uled to appear in Guelph court on November 19. On Sunday Oct. 7 at about 8:04pm Wellington OPP officers stopped an erratic driver in a 1999 Ford, on Wellington Road 29, south of Eden Mills. Offi- cers found that the female driver had been drinking. A 78-year-old Guelph woman has been charged with Im- paired Driving and Over 80 mgs. She is scheduled to appear in Guelph court on November 12. The next day, on Monday Oct. 8 at about 12:15am Wel- lington OPP officers responded to a report of an erratic driver who followed a car into the private laneway of a home on 15 Sideroad of Erin. The lady driver told the homeowner she was lost and trying to find London. Officers located the 1995 Toyota on Wellington Road 124 near Wellington Road 26 and found the female driver had been drinking. A 40-year-old London woman has been charged with Im- paired Driving and Over 80 mgs. She is scheduled to appear in Guelph court on November 19. Mischief Charge An altercation between a tow truck driver and com- pany led to Mischief charges against an Erin man. On Saturday Oct. 6 at about 4:40pm Wellington OPP of- ficers were dispatched to a dispute at a home in Erin Twp. A resident had recently quit working for Wilsons Towing from Orangeville. When the business owner showed up at the home in Erin Township, to pick some of the equipment, a dispute started and ended with the hood of a truck damaged.
