Shortt goes to OFSAA The Atom BB Tanners traveled to Haliburton on October 19 for the Highland Classic Hockey Tournament. Their fi rst game was against the Caledonia Thunder. As it turns out, the Caledonia team was appropriately named as they brought a physical style to their game. A vicious el- bow to Jason Goodfellows head required a visit from the trainer but the Acton team would not be intimi- dated. The Thunder struck fi rst with just over 3 min- utes remaining in the fi rst. The Tanners answered back less than a minute later as David Lafrance picked up a rebound from Michael Kri and fired a backhand shot over the fallen goaltender. In the second, Caledonia struck again just a minute into the frame but Acton tied the match as Cody Arney and Jason Goodfellow found Nick Molinaro sent the puck high over the goaltenders shoulder. Caledonia would not be denied and with a goal late in the second and a fi nal marker in the third they served up a 4-2 defeat to the Tanners. Game 2 was against the Newmarket Redmen. The Tanners were schooled by a fast-skating free-wheel- ing team and fell 7-1 with Actons only goal coming Atom BB Classic from David Lafrance on a rebound from Michael Kri. Goaltender Chris Giordano mad several big saves. Game 3 they faced the Lindsay Muskies. Acton made changes to their lineup, placing forward Riley Spears on defence and moving de- fenseman Neil Mowat to forward. The game started with Lindsay scoring just 22 seconds into the game but it was all Acton after that. Cody Arney opened the scor- ing for Acton with assists to Molinaro and Goodfellow five minutes into the first. Travis Baker and Jordan Clarke showed some domi- nant physical play and was a stalwarts on the blueline. The strong play continued into the second frame and, with Dalton Smith providing strong forechecking, Nick Molinaro fi red a shot to give Acton their fi rst lead of the tournament. Less than a minute later, Kevin Gior- dano shot a rebound from Ian Engstrom with Michael Kri picking up the other as- sist. With one second left in the second frame, David Lafrance made a nice effort and scored but it was called off by the ref who believed the period had ended. In the end, Acton took the 3-1 win, their fi nal game of the tournament. Tyke Jescan Power 7 Eramosa Physiotherapy 5 Jescan Power goals: Mi- chael Holmes (3), Daniel Nascimento (3), Makayla Dee (1).
