The commencement cer- emonies for the graduating class of 06-07 took place at Acton High School on Friday Nov. 2. The students, who officially ended their high school careers this past June, gathered with parents and family in tow to the schools cafeteria where the ceremony was carried out. The honour of being this years valedictorian was gra- ciously given to Alice-Rose Mick. After a brief introduc- tion by Mrs. A Kovich, Mick started into an informal and heartfelt speech directed at the parents, teachers and fel- low grads before her. She spoke of the great memories that are acquired during the four years spent in high school; these memories included thoughts of when she first met her new friends on the first day grade nine. In a gaze towards the fu- ture, Mick said that when you get scared about what the future will bring, simply re- member the things that make you happy. Do away with all the pressures of life, and find what makes you happy. Mick also had a word of advice for the parents of these many graduates. Make sure your children know you love them and sup- port them, she said. Micks speech was in- credibly emotional and passionate. Throughout her speech, Mick was forced to pause. Mick won many awards inc luding: the Landry Wastewise Scholarship, the Lakeside Chapter of IODE Bursary, the Royal Canadian Legion Bursary, the Carleton University Entrance Scholar- ship and the Acton Home Hardware Award Inter- national Business. She was definitely a great choice to represent the grads as their valedictorian.
