Halton is a new program that provides one convenient source of information on retailers that take items back for reuse, recycling or proper disposal. The program was launched on Wednesday, October 31 with retail partners that take back plastic shopping bags for recycling and also offer customers reusable bags to reduce the number of plastic bags going to landfill. You can take back plastic shopping bags to the following locations: Retailers that take back batteries, car oil, compact fluorescent lights bulbs, fertilizers, paints, pharmaceuticals, solvents, and thermostats, will be added to the program. Check our website at www.halton.ca/takeitback for updates on additional items and their locations on where you can take them back. Take It Back! Halton will assist Halton Region in reaching a 60 per cent diversion of residential waste away from the landfill. This extends the life of the landfill and is vital for Haltons environmental and economic future. Take It Back! Halton is part of the Halton Region 2006-2010 Solid Waste Management Strategy to promote product stewardship initiatives. www.halton.ca/takeitback HALTON Burlington Fortinos 1059 Plains Rd E Fortinos 5111 New St Fortinos 2025 Guelph Ln Food Basics 5353 Lakeshore Rd Food Basics 1505 Guelph Ln Longos 2900 Walkers Ln Longos 1225 Fairview St Price Chopper 2201 Brant St Price Chopper 3505 Upper Middle Rd Sobeys 1250 Brant St The Bay Mall 777 Guelph Ln The Bay Mapleview Centre 900 Maple Av Ultra Food & Drug 2010 Appleby Ln Ultra Food & Drug 3365 Fairview St Wal-Mart 4515 Dundas St W Zellers Aldershot Plaza 124 Plains Rd W Zellers Mall 777 Guelph Ln Zellers Millcroft Centre 2000 Appleby Ln Halton Hills A&P 100 Sinclair Av Georgetown A&P 367 Mountainview Rd Georgetown Food Basics 235 Guelph St Georgetown Price Chopper 325 Guelph St Georgetown Real Canadian Superstore 171 Guelph St Georgetown Sobeys 372 Queen St E Acton Wal-Mart 300 Guelph St Georgetown Zellers Georgetown Market Place 300 Guelph St Georgetown Milton A&P 1050 Kennedy Circle Food Basics 500 Laurier Av Real Canadian Superstore 820 Main St E Sobeys Express 16 Market Dr Wal-Mart 1280 Steeles Av E Zellers Mall 55 Ontario St S Oakville Dominion 478 Dundas St W Dominion 1521 Rebecca St Dominion 1011 Upper Middle Rd Food Basics 530 Kerr St Fortinos 173 Lakeshore Rd W Longos 338 Dundas St E Price Chopper 2501 Third Ln Real Canadian Superstore 201 Oak Park Blvd Sobeys 1500 Upper Middle Rd Sobeys 2441 Lakeshore Rd W Sobeys 511 Maple Grove Dr The Barn Fruit Markets 1A-280 N Service Rd W The Bay Place 240 Leighland Av Wal-Mart 234 Hays Blvd Whole Foods Market 301 Cornwall Rd Zellers Hopedale Plaza 1455 Rebecca St 151107 Halton Region has launched a new pilot program to pro- mote water conservation in the home. The 2007 Halton Residential Ultra Low Flow (ULF) Toilet Rebate Pilot Program is offering a rebate to Halton residents who pur- chase and install an approved water effi cient toilet in their home. In the typical home, toilet fl ushing can account for approximately 30 per cent of water usage inside the home. The installation of a high-ef- fi ciency toilet could save 28 litres of water per person per day based on the replacement of an older ineffi cient 13L per fl ush toilet models. Halton residents, who are on the municipal water sup- ply and purchase an approved toilet model in 2007, can apply for a rebate for one toilet per household at this time. Based on the program funding, the Halton Residen- tial Ultra Low Flow (ULF) Toilet Rebate Pilot Program is offering 700 rebates on a fi rst-come, fi rst-serve basis in 2007. Halton Region is pro- moting water conservation with the Halton Residential Ultra Low Flow (ULF) Toi- let Rebate Pilot Program and encouraging residents to be water wise inside the home, said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. Water is a precious resource and we want everyone to participate in preserving it now and for future generations. The toilet rebate pilot pro- gram is a great opportunity for residents in Acton and Georgetown on the munici- pal water supply to conserve water, added Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. As we saw this past summer with the hot and dry weather, the capacity of the water system in our area was under stress, so it is important that we all make an effort to help and reduce water usage in our homes. On October 10, 2007 Halton Regional Council approved staff report PPW 128-07 providing endorsement for the implementation of the 2007 Halton Residential ULF Toilet Rebate Pilot Program. Based on the per fl ush water usage of the approved toilet purchased, residents can ap- ply for a rebate of $60 for toilets which utilize six litres of water per fl ush or a rebate of $75 for High Effi ciency or Dual Flush toilets which utilize 4.8 litre per fl ush and either three litres or six litres per fl ush respectively. To receive their rebate resi- dents complete and mail in the Halton Residential ULF Toilet Rebate Pilot Program Rebate Application Form with the original sales receipt from purchase of an approved model (in 2007), to Halton Region for verifi cation and processing of the rebate. As noted, based on the funds al- located to the pilot program rebates are limited to 700 and on a first-come, first-serve basis. Pilot program to promote water effi cient toilets UP THE TOILET: Mayor Rick Bonnette and Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr put a sticker on one of the approved low fl ow toilets (on the left) eligible for the Region rebate program. In front of the two toilets are two litre bottles representing the amount of water used per fl ush. The low fl ow model on the left is 6.0 litres and has three bottles. The model on the right is a 13.0 litre model which is less water effi cient and has six and a half bottles in frong. The Acton Water Plant was chosen for the photo to reinforce how a low fl ow toilet can reduce the amount of water used in a house. - submitted photo
