Milton led Region with 71% increase New census data from Sta- tistics Canada underscores how Haltons current re- sources will continue to be stretched as the population grows. Released on December 4, the census statistics show that Haltons population has grown by 17% between 2001 and 2006 for a total count of 439,000. While the influx may confi rm that Halton is seen as a desirable place to live, it also helps to illustrate the increased services and in- frastructure required to meet provincial growth targets n the Places to Grow Plan, Halton Region asserts. The new census release pro- vides statistics on language, immigration, citizenship, mo- bility and migration collected from residents of Canada in May, 2006. While Halton grew by 17% over the fi ve year span, the fastest growth in the Region was recorded by the Town of Milton where population increased by 71% to 53,939. Milton continues to be the fastest growing community in Canada. It is not surprising that Halton is regarded as a choice place to live in Ontario, said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr.
