TOYS FOR TOTS: Detective Gary Gold, coordinator of Crime Stoppers, left, Audrey Draaisma, chair of Halton Crime Stoppers, Supt. Bob Percy of Halton Police and Const. Jennifer Grosvenor, coordinator of the Tous for Tots campaign for the Halton Police, show some of the toys collected for needy children this Christmas. - Submitted photo Crime Stoppers pass on gifts to Halton Toys for Tots campaign Audrey Draaisma, chair of Haltons Crime Stop- pers program, handed over a collection of gifts from Crime Stoppers of Halton to the Halton Police Service Toys for Tots campaign on Wednesday, Dec. 12. Superintendent Bob Percy accepted the gifts that will be used to ensure toys are avail- able Christmas morning for all children in the region. Crime Stoppers board members came up with the idea of personally obtaining toys for children while work- ing on a theme to decorate the Crime Stoppers can when it appeared in Santa Claus parades this year throughout Halton Region. This is a personal contribution from the board members, said Detective Gary Gold, coor- dinator of the Halton Crime Stoppers program. The toys were obtained without cost to Crime Stoppers and are being passed along to the Toys for Tots program. Gold said board members thought the gifts adorning the van at the Santa parades in Acton, Oakville, Burling- ton, Milton and Georgetown would have special signifi- cance if people later realized they were actually going to needy children. The crowds along the parade route saw the Crime Stoppers van, but at that moment, it was doubling as Santas sleigh and really bringing presents to children who may not be expecting toys this year, he said. Free lunch concerts at Cultural Centre start in Georgetown Jan. 9 Halton Hills Cultural Centre has confirmed a series of five performances for the public in the Art Gallery. Scheduled for the second Wednesday of the month, the shows will run from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Gallery. Patrons are welcome to bring their lunch to the venue for the show. These concerts are intended to encourage local artists and offer the community the op- portunity to enjoy diverse forms of music and art. The concerts begin on January 9 with the George Grosman Duo, consisting of George on guitar and vocals and Tony Quarrington on gui- tar and back-up vocals. Quarrington is a well known Toronto guitarist and producer who has appeared on recordings too numerous to mention. His collabora- tors include such well known jazz names as pianist Bernie Senensky, saxophonist Kirk MacDonald and Grammy nominated trumpeter Kevin Clark. George Grosman studied classical guitar and composi- tion at the Guildhall School of Music in London, England and has now been working as a Toronto jazz/pop guitarist, vocalist and producer for two decades. He has released four CDs of his own material. His latest ventures include the ethnic jazz band, Bohe- mian Swing and the more straightforward swing quartet, Swing Noir. The concert schedule fea- tures accomplished guitarist Arash Noori on February 13, harpist/soprano duo Kristen Theriault and Janet Cath- erine Dea on March 12, The Chaplains Brass on April 9, and the Henderson-Kolk Duo on May 14. More details about the series can be found on the Cultural Centres website www.haltonhill.ca/theatre. Any musicians interested in performing in this series con- tact the Theatre Supervisor at jsmith@haltonhills.ca.
