Halton Hills Boys Gymnasts compete at Provincial Cup Members of the Halton Hills Gymnastics Centre (HHGC) boys team competed at their first meet of the season at the Tumblers Gymnastics Centre in Orleans, Ottawa on Decem- ber 7-9 of 2007. Three HHGC gymnasts com- peted for the Ontario Winter Games team selection. Corey Gillies, Zachary Brautigan and Riley Dodds who are compet- ing at a higher level than last year (Provincial Level 3) com- peted with athletes performing Level 5 routines. Riley quali- fied for the team placing 26th all around. Zachary and Corey placed 37th and 38th all around securing 1st and 2nd alternate spots for the team list. Gabriel Reitz of HHGC did not compete due to injury. Two of the HHGCs national gymnasts also competed for a chance to represent Team Ontario for an International Competition in USA. Marc De- Lestard placed 12th all around and 4th on pommel horse. Alex Bowmer places 22nd all around in his first competition of na- tional caliber. The top 7 all around athletes made the Na- tional Tour Team. All members did well at the meet. Level 2, 10 years From a number of 54 boys who competed under Level 1 (10 years) last year, only 12 gymnasts moved up to Level 2 this year, 4 of them from HHGC. Sean Doherty, all around 12th, with best score of 8.200 on vault, Jeremy Meneses, all around 11th, vault 4th, Ryan Oehrlein, all around 9th, vault and p-bars 7th, Andrew Pietras, all around 8th, floor and pommel 7th. He also won a bronze medal on rings and a silver medal on high bar. Level 2, 10-12 years Eric Shieh, all around 8th, p-bars 6th, vault and pommel 4th Level 3, 13 years Zachary Brautigan, all around 15th, pommel 4th, Riley Dodds, all around 13th, vault and p-bars 5th, Corey Gillies, all around 11th, pommel 6th, vault 5th. National, age 16+ Alex Bowmer, all around 14th, floor 7th, Marc DeLestard, all around 7th, high bar 7th, pommel 5th. He also won a bronze medal on floor. Devils take Bolts Cougs edge Sharks Louise Kuenzig registered her first shut-out as Red Devils upended the Blue Lightning 2 0 on Dec. 21 ladies hockey. Deb Evans scored a goal with an assist from Erin Donnelly. The goal stood up until late in the third period when Erin Don- nelly sealed the deal with a goal assisted by Carolyn Hill. In the second game Sandy Walsh led the Gold Cougars past the Dark Sharks by scor- ing two goals in the 3-2 win. Pamela Ireland scored the other goal for the Cougars. Getting assists for the Cougars were Ireland with 2 while Kellie Encima and Evelyn Bedard had singles. Scoring for the Sharks were Annette Kroezen and Karen Foster. Assists went to Shelley Dodds and Annette Kroezen. This Friday the Red Devils visit the Gold Cougars at 10 p.m. And the 11 p.m. game sees the Blue Lightning facing off with the Dark Sharks.
