Howard won $1,000 in BIA dollars that she plans to spend on Christmas presents and taking her family out to dinner. Howard and the other participants had to shop at as many Acton BIA member stores and ser- vices that they could and collect Shop Local BIA Thank You cards. They then had to submit the cards to the BIA for tabulation and on Mon- day, BIA staff determined that Howard was the win- ner, having collected 39 of the possible 41 cards. H o w a r d , a y o u n g mother, was reportedly surprised and very happy to learn that she was the winner in the Shop Lo- cal contest that ran for a month until December 6. T h e S h o p L o c a l promotion went over really well we had lot of Santa on Tuesday as she presented $100 BIA dol- lars to the owners of Dollar Stretcher Daze, selected by customers as having the best Christmas win- dows. All five of the stores windows were decorated by Angela Robertson, a friend and neighbour of the owners, and her New Years scene and family Christmas window with a trees and presents went over especially well with shoppers who cast their ballots. On Tuesday, one of the shoppers who had selected Dollar Stretcher Daze as the best window winner also received $100 BIA bucks. That winner is customer, Angela Beckingham. participants and the mer- chants really got into it as well, said BIA manager Josey Bonnette on Tues- day. She said the BIAs Olde Fashioned Christ- mas was also a success on Saturday with large crowds turning out at the corner of Mill and Mains Streets to sing carols with the Acton Citizens Band, enjoy free hot chocolate and cider and take rides in a horse-drawn wagon with Santa. On Monday morning at 11:20, Acton firefight- ers responded to a Brock Street residence when a carbon monoxide detector sounded, but no trace of the deadly gas was found.
