Concert, Jazz Bands delight audience at Acton High School By Traci Gardner Acton High School was filled with music on Thursday, Decem- ber 11, as the schools Concert and Jazz Bands presented their annual Christmas concert. The evening showcased the talents of both the main Concert Band and the smaller Jazz Band, both led by teacher Curtis Clarke (aka Pipes), who commented on the dedication of the band members and it was clear from their performance they truly enjoyed playing. The Concert Band performed first and played a number of challenging pieces, including two that they will be performing at a festival early in the new year. The Jazz Band took the stage next and performed a few upbeat numbers. Though called a Jazz band, they do not limit them- selves to Jazz numbers, performing Swing, Rock and Soul pieces. A short intermission allowed the audi- ence to mingle with band members while enjoying refreshments, be- fore the Jazz Band took to the stage again. The second half of the Concert was Christmas themed, with the exception of the inclusion of Lu- cretia Mac Evil, which Mr Clarke included because I like it. The evening concluded with a rousing chorus of We Wish You A Merry Christmas with the audience sing- ing along to the concert band. A tuba at the front door was used as an unusual container to collect donations to be used to support the bands upcoming trip to Montreal in May 2009. The band is also spon- soring the annual Yuk Yuks comedy night at the high school on February 19, 2009, with proceeds also sup- porting the trip.
