In semi-final The hometown Midland team opened the semi-final with a flurry, storming the Tanner zone and threaten- ing to take an early lead. The Tanners managed to weather the early onslaught and set- tled into close contest with the host team. Acton scored the first goal with 1:58 left in the first and that turned out to be the game winner. The Tan- ners padded their lead with 2 in the second and protected their lead in the third. Scoring for Acton Van- DerEyken, Tyler Christopher and Wells. Assist to Ashrafi. The shut out was recorded by Mitchell Christopher. The Silver Stick final was scheduled for 1:30 pm on Dec.31/08 against a red-hot Barrie Colts team, which scored 29 goals in 4 games dominating the tournament. THE FINAL: Undefeated in league play, the Colts looked to be a stiff challenge for the Acton team but, The Tanners were up to the challenge. Ten of the cur- rent Tanners had been in this exact position as PeeWees when they prevailed against Barrie two years ago. Dis- playing a strong work ethic, the Tanners maintained a ter- ritorial advantage through much of the game. This re- sulted in a 2-0 lead at the end of the second. An early goal by Barrie in the third, closed the gap to 2-1, but that was as close as they got. Mitchell Chris- topher made several key saves to stymie the Colts and earn game MVP. An empty net goal by Acton closed the scoring, final score 3-1. Scoring for Acton, Trem- blay, Wells and Ashrafi. Assists to Christopher and Ashrafi.
