Ask forCasey ????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????? ?????? I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a healthy New Year, and havent broken too many New Years resolutions yet. The only thing I have to report on over the holi- days is the wonderful Gala Evening on December 27. We didnt have as many people attending as we had hoped due to sick- ness and the weather, but those who came had a very entertaining time. David Burland was M.C. and did a very professional job of keeping things running smoothly and Jim Vail kept everyone moving to the music. Zena Wykowski taught us how to Tango and Salsa, and there was a great swaying of hips to the catchy music. Two young students, Jamie Trowbridge and Meagan Speakman, entertained with their graceful dan- cing, choreography by Lynda Yurkin. Lynda was also the ballroom dancing instructor. They were all members of the local dance studio T.D.I. To lighten the evening we had Dolores Wright, Joyce Erskine and Loraine Davis dancing and miming to Yellow Polka Dot Bikini and dressed in the appro- priate costumes. Nevis Bozic worked behind the scenes with costume chan- ges. Great Fun! Nettie Field sang sev- eral songs and her voice was still in great form; she was accompanied by Marie Anderson on the keyboard and Pat Frizzell on tub drum, (who would have thought an old wash- ing tub, string and a stick could sound so good). Later in the evening we enjoyed a buffet meal thanks to Dave Dodgson and Lennora McKinnon. Joyce Marrows and her daughter Alison Colter worked very hard in the kitchen making sure the hot and cold dishes were served to perfection when Lennora wasnt able to make it in due to the weath- er. The Gala was organized by the L.T. T.F committee plus a few members and friends who had their arms twisted to help. Thanks to Marg Bromby who was in charge of liquid refresh- ments, and ran a very professional bar, which added to the enjoyment. It was a very successful evening. There were lots of wonderful prizes thanks to Dave Burland and his wife. The happy recipi- ents were Cheryl Field, Carmen Bissonnette, Real Tetreault, Bill Krever, Mahrukh Bapooji, Marj Bartels, Margaret Dell- man, Sharon McCann, Vic tor Bissonnet te , Wendy Krever and Ida Gordon. The 50/50 was won by Real Tetreault. One person was the happy recipient of a gift certifi- cate for Dinner for Two thanks to Mayor Rick Bonnette. The carpet bowlers are back playing on Monday afternoons. There were only six players. Nevis Bozics Brown team beat her husband Ivans Black team 11 to 8, but the most important thing was the fun they had. Now is the time to regis- ter for Tai Chi, as a new session starts on Monday, January 12. Line dancing also resumes that day. The Yoga Town program will also start next week, but the location will change as it was too noisy in the hall. It will still be held in Acton. If you are inter- ested call the recreation department. Still thinking of exer- cising now the weather is colder, and it is icy underfoot? Dont forget, you can walk, jog, or run on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings in the agriculture building in the park. The birthday tea to celebrate everyone born in December and January will be on Tuesday, Jan. 13.You should receive a phone call inviting you if your birthday falls in these two months. On a sad note I would like to mention that Jack MacFarlane passed away last week. Over the years he and his wife Marg have spent many hours volunteering and partici- pating at various events at the Centre. He will be missed. Another longtime mem- ber, Lydia Bennett, also passed away. She enjoyed the Friday lunches and would come in early to help fold the napkins ready for dinner. Our condol- ences to the families. On a happier note, Betty Green was very surprised last Sunday when many friends dropped in to help celebrate her 80th birthday at St Albans Church Hall. Her family had arranged a surprise Open House. Betty is another member who has dedicated many hours of volunteering at the Centre. LAST MYSTERY LUNCH OF 2008: Snow and a stormy day couldnt keep these Acton Seniors away from the Friday Mystery lunch on December 19th. Lennora McKinnon and her crew had cooked up a delicious ham and turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The Centre closed early due to the weather. - Submitted photo
