Bekky Gibson did just that when she submitted her heart- felt entry on her outstanding teacher, Ms. Jen Ross, of Ac- ton District High School in Acton. Ms. Ross is exceptional in every way. She treats every student with respect and love and trust. She was not able to have children, and says en- dearingly that that doesnt bother her, because she has us. She as diagnosed with MS in her early 20s and has not let that stop her. She spent years in a wheelchair and though she is not cured, and still endures many pain- ful [treatments], she stands, runs, jumps and dances with us every day, Bekky says I was delighted to win the STAPLES contest, what was particularly heartening was to be nominated by a student. The creative energy students bring to the classroom gives me hope for the future, said Ms. Ross. When asked about how she plans to invest her winnings in the classroom, she confirmed that she will be using the money to get organ- ized (not her strong point!) Ms. Ross has been teaching for 18 years. Her motivation for teaching is helping stu- dents achieve their potential. This is a meaningful way to spend your life, its fun too! Bekky was moved to enter Ms. Ross into the STAPLES Show Your Teacher Ap- preciation contest because of Ms. Rosss outstanding teaching abilities and com- passion towards all of her students. STAPLES also selected winning entries from Brit- ish Columbia/Alberta, Saskatchewan/Manitoba, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Each teacher was awarded a $1,000 STAPLES gift card and the student received a 4G iPod Nano for their win- ning entry. LEGION NEWS By James Hayes P.R.O.
