Over the past six years RBC Insurance has award- ed more than $600,000 to grassroots hockey ac- tivities across Canada through the RBC Local Hockey Leaders program. Grants have been used to replace aging equipment, make hockey more ac- cessible, train coaches, improve facilities and for many other causes close to the hearts of Canadas grassroots hockey lead- ers. A panel including Na- tional Womens Team member Jayna Hefford, National Mens Sledge Hockey Team captain Jean Labonthockey legend Ron Ellis, Dave Cobb, Executive Vice Pres ident , Revenue, Marketing and Communi- cations, VANOC and Dr. Allan Morris, chairman of the Board, Hockey Canada will select win- ners from nominations submitted through the program website. Novice go over 500 On Saturday, January 31 the Purity Life Acton Novice Chargers travelled to Missis- sauga to play Meadowvale, coming out on top with a convincing 9-2 win. Leading the way points for Acton was Jake Case, coring 3 times and assisting twice. Also contributing were Nicholas Jones with 2 goals, 1 assist; Talon Fife with 1 goal, 2 assists; Ricky Villa with 1 goal, 1 assists; Kyle Spence with 1 goal, 1 assists; Kyle MacDon- ald with 2 assists; Noah St. Denis with 1 goal; Jacob Dawkins with 1 assist; Jack Kennedy with 1 assist and Liam Weir with 1 assist. We came out strong right from the start of the game, we scored in the first minute and never looked back, said Coach Mike Case. Some of the passes were beautiful, it was like WOW. Close game On Sun., Feb. 1 Waterloo would come to Hillsburgh to play the Chargers in very close game action. Acton once again came out on top winning 3-1. Waterloo opened the scor- ing with 1:20 remaining in the first period. Midway through the 2nd period, with a blueline pinch by defense- man Jacob Dawkins, Noah St. Denis alone in front, tied the game at one. Just under two minutes after the equal- izer, Jake Case scored what would be the game w2inner with and end-to-end rush. With the Chargers up 2-1 going into the final frame, and great goaltending from Justin Percy, Talon Fife would put the game out of reach with under 3 minutes remaining with assists go- ing to Ricky Villa and Liam Weir. The kids are playing great! Everyone is playing great positional hockey, de- fence is playing solid in our own end. Justins been solid in net and our forwards are coming back hard, said Coach Case. What I like most about our team is all 3 lines are scoring, were not depending on just one line to score!....we (coaching staff) are very proud of the way they are playing right now. Next up for the Purity Life Chargers is Guleph on Feb- ruary 14, in Hillsburgh. Ladies Hockey Sharks bite Lightning Cougars tie Devils In Acton Ladies Hockey the X Marks The Fitness Spot Sharks edged the Acton Optical Lightning 1-0.
