BRANCH NO. 197 Comrades, Winterfest. Last Sunday on the patio was a sight to be seen, as approximately 150 kids and adults took part in a splendid afternoon of fresh air and fun. I enjoyed the Maple syrup Taffy, poured on the fresh snow and then shovelled in your mouth as soon as it cooled. Yummy! The roasted marshmal lows were also well received. We had goody bags for the first 40 kids, snow paint- ing, indoor Valentine crafts and games, and numerous fun outdoor activities. There was free hot chocolate and hot dogs for the kids and some door prizes. It will be impossible for me to name all of the volunteers who made the day what it was, and I am not going to try; you know who you are and the organizers do also. I have to make mention of the following for do- ing that extra bit, Keith Andrews, Jim Brown, and Wes Kutasienski, for snow blowing. Bob Service, Jesse Forest and Tom Delmoro for providing all those trips on their snow machines. Bev Mattocks, Cathy & Alan Hall, John Wagg, Dave Maloney, Connie Bath and Sharon Rex. Ask forCasey ????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????? ?????? The weather last Wed- nesday caused the New Members Luncheon to be cancelled and the Centre closed at noon. The Luncheon has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 3. New members will receive a phone call inviting them once again. (Hopefully Mother Nature will co operate with us this time). It takes more than a snow storm to stop the Rama trip. Ruth tells me the drive wasnt the best, and they were a little late getting home, but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Sitting in the Lucky seats on the bus were Rita Court, Joan Sykes, Beryl Clegg, Janet Hendy, Ann Ingles, Gwen Pemberton, Wilda Tressel, Rose Morrison, Susan Bonnell. The 50/50 was won by June Colacci, and the birthday winner was Bill Brewer. The next Rama trip will be Wed, Feb. 25. There were two moon- ers at last Thursdays Bid Euchre. May Hoare and Mae Milton. Dont forget the Centre will be closed on Mon., Feb. 16 for the Family Day holiday. In this weeks Tanner is an advertisement with the proposed amendments to the constitution and bylaws. Please read it so when you vote at the An- nual General Meeting on Feb. 24, you will under- stand what you are voting for. The proposed amend- ments are also posted at the Centre. We will also be electing several new members to the board to replace positions that have become vacant. I hope to see many of you at the Valentines din- ner on Feb. 11. This is the last social event Victor will be organizing as his three year term on the board is almost up. Thanks to Victor, his wife Carmen, and the social committee for many entertaining even- ings, and great dinners. I know everyone enjoyed the events Victor and his committee presented. I am sure the person taking over from Victor will have as much co operation and help as he received from his great committee. SALT have arranged a presentation by the Min- istry of Transportation, on Feb. 17. Lunch will be provided. You must register by Mon., Feb. 9. The sign up sheet is at the front desk. Hot off the Press. The latest newsletter Hillsview is at the front desk. If everything runs according to plan, the Elizabeth Street Seniors Apartments and Birch- way Apartments should already have received theirs. There are extra cop- ies at the Acton Library for anyone who would like information on the Acton Seniors Recreation Centre. I know for some people our hours are not convenient. The Library is open in the evenings. Hopefully you will see something that interests you and we will see you in the near future. The travel desk and Great Canadian are ar- ranging a trip to The Black Forest Inn in Conestogo on Tue., March 17. There will of course be a Celtic theme as thats St. Pat- ricks Day. Everyone has a little bit of Irish in them on that day. Karen Reed is one of Canadas greatest fiddlers, and she is backed by Crossbow and an amaz- ing group of Irish dancers. Before the show the coach will make a stop at Bo-De sweets in Waterloo, and on the way home at Picards Peanuts, so you will be able to stock up on lots of treats. There is still room if you wish to see Jersey Boys on Wed., April 1. So, sign up quickly if you are inter- ested in either trip. I dont know if people realize but the trips run by the travel desk and Great Canadian are available to non members also. There is a Valentine Dance at the Acton Legion on Feb., 14. The Seniors Centre does have tickets for sale, and if you should purchase your tickets at the Centre we will receive a donation for each ticket sold. The weekly 50/50 was not won this week. By next week it should be almost $200.00. If you dont visit the Centre and put your money in the box you cant win.
