It should have read Betty Leonard (Not Loretta Ivanyshyn), and miss-spelt another committee mem- bers name. It should have been Marj McDonough (not Mary). Sorry ladies. The old saying is right: More haste less speed. There were eight people carpet bowling last Mon- day afternoon. Pat Galtons brown team beat Stella Bru- nelles black team 22 to 9. A ladys ring was left be- hind at the Centre a couple of weeks ago. Also in the Lost and Found box is a light and dark blue fleecy scarf, and a beige umbrella. (You might need the um- brella shortly), plus some prescription sun glasses and one black leather glove found in the car park. Please check with the front desk if any of the items sound familiar. (We would need a description of the ring). There were no mooners last week, but Ruth said they were trying. In fact she said, They were a try- ing bunch. Dont forget the Centre will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16 for the Family Day holiday. I hope to see lots of you at the Annual General Meet- ing. on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 1.30p.m. Have you picked up your latest edition of Hillsview? I hope you enjoyed the many pictures and found the information useful. If you have any suggestions to improve it, please give it to me in writing. If the committee felt it would help improve the newsletter we will try and incorporate it. Not able to get to the Centre? The Acton Library does have extra copies of The United Way of Halton Hills is facing a campaign shortfall for its 2008 campaign. With the goal set at $300,000, Halton Hills is facing a shortage of $35,000 to match the goal. A funding shortfall to the campaign will have a direct impact on the local programs and services that are funded by this United Way, officials of United Way say. The goal was set at $200,000 (increase of $25,000 over 2007) due to the expectation that there would be an increase in funding applica- tions. As expected, the local social service agencies have seen an increase in usage, and the United Way of Halton Hills re- ceived applications totalling over $400,000 in requested funding. Chris Cooke, campaign chairperson for Halton Hills states: As a relatively new resident of the Town of Halton Hills, I have been really impressed with the sense of community that I feel in living here. These economic times call for all of us to pull together even more to support those that require a hand upnot hand out. Our goal for the 2008 campaign recognized the growth in the community and growing need for support from the local programs and services that the united Way of Halton Hills funds. Its not too late to help us de- liver on our mission: To improve lives in our caring community. United Way of Halton Hills currently funds 14 local social service agencies, that provide over 20 programs and services to residents of Halton Hills. Agencies such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Links2Care, Literacy North Halton, STRIDE, Com- munity Living North Halton, Deistress centre North Halton , only to name a few, are all funded agencies of United Way of Halton Hills. Its not too late to make a donation to the 2008 campaign. If you would like to donate, or would like more information about the work of United Way, please call Janet Foster, Exec- utive Director of the United Way of Halton Hills at 905-877-3066. Drinking & Driving On Friday, Feb. 6 at about 9:31pm Wellington OPP officers were con- ducting RIDE checks on Main Street, HIllsburgh where they checked the driver of a 1983 GMC pickup and found he had been drinking. The classes are every Thursday at 7p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7.15p.m. will be the next evening euchre game. I know the players will miss May Laing who enjoyed playing at the Centre. You do not have to be a member of the Centre to enjoy play- ing euchre in the evenings. I hope everyone enjoys Valentines Day this week- end. I did hear through the grapevine that several mem- bers of our Centre were married on Valentines Day, so that makes it very special to them. One couple I know are still together after many years. Congratulations, Pat and Dobbie! I am tentatively trying to arrange a joint trip with the Acton Legion to the Brit- ish Isles show on Saturday, April 4. Last year we went on a Friday, and several of the Acts were not on, so we felt Saturday would be better. If anyone is interest- ed please give me a call, or leave a note in my slot. Betty, chairperson of the travel desk, tells me there are still a few seats left to see Jersey Boys in Toron- to. She had great response after I mentioned it in last weeks Tanner. Another trip she has planned is to celebrate St. Patricks Day with dinner and a show at the Black Forest Inn. Sounds like fun. If you signed up for either the trip to the Heritage Plane museum or Aberfoyle Mill dinner theatre please either pay as soon as pos- sible, or let me know if you have changed your mind. I am working with Nan- cy, Ted Tyler and the Tyler Travel to try and arrange some more trips with the Gals on the Go. Hopefully everything will work out. The 50/50 winner was Marg Haring and she won almost $200. Congratula- tions, Marg cers said they found the 2003 Pontiac stuck in the ditch with the driver still seated at the wheel. Police spoke with the driver and found he had been drink- ing. A 23-year-old Cam- bridge man has been charged with Impaired Driving. Wellington O.P.P.
