JOURNEYMAN POWER LINE PERSON LADIES IN RED: Teresa Downey, Betty Holmes, and Siena Ancker attended the Valentine Dinner at the Acton Seniors Centre last week. Steve Palichuck not only helped serve the dinner but gave every lady a red rose Julie Conroy Photo ????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????? ?????? There were only six people at the carpet bow- ing last Monday. Siena Anckers Brown team beat Shirley Kruks Black team 15-8. They had a break for the Family Day holiday on Monday, so hopefully there will be more people playing next week. They do enjoy themselves, and have lots of fun. Beverly Santos with Free- dom Home Health Services, was an interesting speaker at the Centre last Tuesday. She talked about the ways of being able to stay in your own home longer, after suffering a stoke, or some other debilitating injury, She emphasized that people get better quicker and feel hap- pier in their familiar home surroundings, as long as they have the support they need. If you would like more information, she left leaflets at the Centre. The annual General meet- ing is being held on Tuesday, Feb 24 at 1:30pm. We will be electing two members to the board. A vice president and a social convener (they are responsible for arranging the social dinners and social evenings) There will also be some amendments to the bylaws. We have a beautiful picture painted and donated by Maria Sallay. The win- ning ticket will be drawn at the AGM. You still have time to purchase one. It was a Full House at the Valentine dinner on February 11. I think it must have been a record crowd for the monthly dinners as 76 people bought tickets. Vern Denny, Marie Ander- son, Earl Burt, Marie Fryer and Bill McBride, mem- bers of The Gang from the Hill entertained, and everyone enjoyed the music and dancing. We missed Pat Frizzell on the Tub Drum due to her brother in laws passing in Michigan last week. Every lady received a beautiful rose, and the door prize winners were Marg Bromby, Aspy Bapooji, Ed Czuchnicki, Sue Robbins, Mike DeSantis, Ida Gor- don, Russ Davis, and Jill Tetreault. The 50/50 was won by Pat Stark, and the beauti- ful bracelet by Margaret Anderson. We missed Ruth at the bid euchre last Thursday. She was having minor surgery on her hand. Hopefully it wont affect her card playing next week. There were no mooners this week Everything seems to be up and running after the Christmas break. The scrap booking is the last Monday of the month at 7pm and the paper tole every Thursday evening at 7pm. Bev Jones is chairperson of the fundraising commit- tee, and would love to see some new faces and hear new ideas. If this sounds like something you would enjoy, come out to the next fund- raising meeting on Tuesday, March 10 at 10am. Bev is already planning the next Rock-a-Thon to be held in early October. If you have indoor plants and they need separating we will be having our annual Spring Bazaar on Saturday, May 8 and would love to have themn at that time. We will also be looking for perennials. The new Members Lunch will be on March 3 at 12:30pm. This is your chance to meet your board members and get all the questions you have about the Centre answered. Hope- fully the weather will be better that day, and we wont have to cancel. Jill mentioned there are still some members who havent renewed their memberships. Your mem- bership runs from January 1 to December 31. If you were a person who renewed in late summer you would have had your membership pro-rated and paid for the balance of that year plus this year. Membership is a bargain at $20 per year, and if you are a member, it means you are welcome to visit the Georgetown Cen- tre at any time. Just pop in when you are shopping and check them out. We do have newsletters from the Georgetown Centre so you can see if they offer some- thing different that might interest you. Its a great opportunity for making new friends, and learning new skills. Update on the British Isles show. Kevin from Coronation Street will be the guest this year. If you are interested in going please check the sheets in the usual spot. Feeling lucky? Theres a trip planned with Great Canadian to the Windsor Casino on March 23 24. It is an overnight trip, so if you have any questions pop in to the Centre Monday or Friday mornings and the travel desk can give you more information. You dont have to be a mem- ber to participate in these trips.
