Others treated for minor injuries at Guelph General Hospital were from Erin, Everton and Acton. Wellington OPP said their investigation showed a 2006 Ford Expedition was in the westbound lane of 124 waiting to turn into a private driveway. A 2007 Dodge van was eastbound towards this location, fol- lowed by a 2008 Mazda Tribute. Coming toward the area in blowing snow was a 2002 Mazda 626 travel- ling west. It struck the rear corner of the Ford, police said, and caused it to spin into the eastbound lanes where it was struck by the rear corner of the Expedition. This collision caused the car to spin into the eastbound lanes where it was struck on the driv- ers side by the Dodge van, which in turn was struck on the passenger side by the Mazda Tribute. The four injured occu- pants of the 626 had to be extricated by the Hills- burgh Fire Dept. A rear seat passenger, 16-year-old Shannon Cartwright was taken to Guelph General Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver, her 18-year-old brother, Kyle Cartwright was taken to Guelph hos- pital and then transferred to Hamilton General Hos- pital in serious condition, police said. Rear seat passenger, 14-year-old Carly McA- ree of Erin was taken to Guelph hospital where she was listed in stable but serious condition. Four- teen-year-old Stephanie Hall, a front seat passen- ger from Hillsburgh was treated at hospital for min- or injuries. The Expeditions driver, Laila Johns, 36, of Acton was released from hos- pital with minor injuries. The van driver, Ian Van- derstam, 47, of Everton, his 10-year-old son and friend Jon Torres, 26, re- ported minor injuries. The Mazda Tribute driv- er, Laurie Tothe-Parker, 33, of Acton had minor injur- ies and her infant daughter was unhurt. To enroll your child call Angela Mathers at 519-833-9696 ext. 227 Drinking driving On Sunday, Feb. 22 at about 12:25am Wellington OPP investigated the driver of a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix found travelling on Welling- ton Road 125 at Wellington Road 124 of Erin Twp. Po- lice spoke to the driver and found he had been drinking. The driver was adminis- tered a Roadside Screening Device test which resulted in a fail. A 37-year-old Cambridge man has been charged with Over 80mgs and is sched- uled to appear in Guelph court on March 30 to answer to the charge. On Wednesday, Feb. 18 at about 5:40pm Wellington OPP officers responded to a report of an auto that had gone off the roadway into the ditch, striking a tree, on the fifth Line of Guelph/Er- amosa, north of Rockwood. Officers found a 2005 Chevy Silverado pickup had left the roadway and struck a tree. Officers spoke to the driver and discovered he had been drinking, and the driv- er refused to provide police with a breath sample. A 63-year-old man has been charged with Refuse Breath Sample. He is sched- uled to appear in Guelph court on April 6 to answer to the charge. Domestic dispute On Wednesday, Feb. 18 at about 8:13pm OPP offi- cers responded to a report of domestic dispute in an auto on the Eight Line of Erin Twp. Officers spoke with a 44-year-old female who reported being with her common-law husband, and driving back to the Shel- burne area when they began arguing over directions. The victim said she was punched by her husband and demanded to be let out of the car. He stopped and dropped her off on the side of the road and police were called. Offi- cers located the 2008 Dodge car driving nearby and found the driver had been drink- ing. He was administered a Roadside Screening Device test which resulted in a fail. A 50-year-old Amaranth Twp. Man has been charged with Assault and Over 80mgs and is scheduled to appear in Guelph court on Feb. 19 for a Bail Hearing. Stolen auto At about 1:50pm on Sat- urday, Feb. 21 OPP officers attempted to stop a 2000 Chrysler found travelling on Wellington Road 51 in the area of Wellington Road 7. Police activated the emer- gency lights for the auto to stop and the driver ignored the officers directions and continued to drive west- bound on Wellington Road 51. The auto continued west and finally came to a stop near the intersection of Wellington Road 39, in Guelph-Eramosa Twp. Po- lice checked and found the auto had been stolen the evening before from the Kitchener area. Upon arrest, the driver resisted, and po- lice located a knife hidden in his jacket sleeve. A 31-year-old Belwood area man faces charges of Dangerous Driving, Flight from Police, Theft of Auto, Resist Arrest, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon and breach of Probation under the Criminal Code of Canada. He also has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle No Licence under the Highway Traffic Act. Speeders of Week On Sunday, Feb. 15 at about 8:48pm Wellington OPP officer Constable Keith Robb was patrolling High- way 6, north of Wellington Road 17 monitoring traf- fic when he spotted a 2009 Pontiac G5 travelling south and caught on radar at a high clock of 141 km/h in the 80km/h zone. T h e G u e l p h S t o r m Trackers organization was thanked for working with the Lions in selling jerseys Wellington OPP respond almost daily to calls of items stolen from parked autos, at homes or parking areas, and they are urging residents to lock their vehicles up to keep items inside, out of sight. From February 1 to 10 officers responded to nine incidents where items have been taken from parked autos. In all cases, there has been a common theme items left in the open tempt would-be thieves. Items taken over the 10 days included two pairs of designer sunglasses, three wallets, two purses, three navigation systems (GPS), two IPods, one Blackberry, camera, pair of binoculars, a jacket and a laptop computer, not mentioning numerous credit cards, bank cards, drivers licences, health cards and SIN num- bers. These are vol- unteer fire fighters on their way to emergency calls. The Wellington O.P.P. was presented with a new laptop computer, printer and accessories. They will be used by the on-site offi- cer at Erin High School and for the P.A.C.T program (Police and Commun- ity Together), which is an eight-week course where the public can learn the how and why of police work.
