Mom and Dad ????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????? ?????? The Acton Seniors Centre does have a small library of paperback and hardcover books which members can borrow on an honour system. We would like to add DVDs and Videos. If you are clearing out your music centers, and would like to do- nate them, we would be happy to give them a new home. R.N. Sylvia Dawe, the public nurse with HIP (Halton Hills Injury Prevention) arranged to have a presentation named Shifting Gears at the Acton Seniors Centre on Tuesday, Feb. 17. It was well attended and almost 50 people enjoyed the brunch and the great informa- tion. Ministry of Transportation employee Natalie Zeitoun took the mystery out of renewing your drivers licence once you reach the age of 80. M.C. was Halton Region Constable Maureen Andrew who talked on various scams. She mentioned we are now get- ting into the season when there will be knocks at the door and phone calls to pave your drive- way, repair the outside of your house, etc. She stressed dont make any commitments without checking the company first. The same goes for charitable donations either by phone or at the door. She stressed the police never ask for donations. Keith Black, with Wheels Driver Education talked about winter driving and being aware of your surroundings. It was a join effort by SALT, (Seniors and Law information Together), HIP, Acton Seniors Centre and Seniors Planning and Education (with Lincs2Care), who arrange the delicious brunch. Shirley Broostad asked me to mention that if you have a photo I.D. health card they have an expiry date, so you might want to check yours, and make an appointment to renew it before it expires. On March 11 at 1pm come out and join others for a Snack and Snooker session. We have a lovely pool table that is never used, and we would like to see more people playing. Lets get something started. Come out and give it a try. Once again we are going to try and arrange a Bridge group. If you wrote your name down before, or would like to play, would you please put your name on the New sign up sheet? Maybe we could have a games afternoon (or morning) as we have Chinese checkers, a scrabble board, and lots of play- ing cards for other games. Does anyone want to help out with the above ideas? It was nice to see two of our snowbirds have returned home to enjoy canasta on Thursday mornings. Welcome back Pat and Fran. Our cruisers Bonnie, Mar- tha and Claude have their feet firmly on terra firma (even if Claude has a slight problem with that). There were four tables this week. Wendy is also working on the belly dancing lessons. Watch for the sign-up sheet, or if you did sign up before, expect a call. The New Members Lunch will be on March 3 at 12.30pm. This is your chance to meet your board members and get all the questions you have about the Centre answered. Hopefully the weather will be better that day, and we wont have to cancel. A new trip to think about. Gals on the Go are con- sidering going to see the matinee performance of The Hamilton Golden Age Variety show in Hamilton at the Theatre Aquarius on Wednesday, April 22. I understand the show is ex- cellent. If you are interested you must sign up as soon as possible as I have to confirm numbers soon. (The show sells out quickly). Its getting close to that dreaded time of the year when we have to gather all our papers together and hope we dont owe the Tax Man too much income tax. Please be aware that the Acton Seniors Centre is no longer holding the Income Tax Clinic. I understand both the Links2Care at 519-853- 3310, and the Acton Public library at 519-853-0301are providing this service. If you think you qualify to take ad- vantage of the clinics please give them a call. Betty Green asked me to thank all the people who brought in the plastic tabs from their milk and bread. They went towards purchas- ing a wheelchair for a young boy. Lets do our part in re- cycling, even in a small part and help someone at the same time. We are still collecting them and the container is on the Travel Desk. The 50/50 was not won on February 13 or 20, so the pot should be around $200. Remember you must be a paid-up member to win. Putting your money in the box and signing the sheet wont help if you didnt pay your 2009 membership by December 31, 2008. Your name is removed until you renew again. LOTS OF GREAT INFORMATION: Anne Drysdale, Joyce Erskine and Delores Wright, looking over the great literature which could help you pass your driving test once you reach 80, and keep you safe from scams, or accidents in the home. The information session was sponsored by SALT and HIP at the Acton Seniors Centre last week. Julie Conroy photo
