The fund raiser for the High School Band was well attended and everyone enjoyed the comedy of Lawrence Morgenstern (left), John Ki (right) and headliner Allyson Smith (centre). The antics between the comediens and grade 11 student Mike aka McLovin added to the laughs. - Traci Gardner Photo To the editor, Dear Fellow Residents of Acton. I want to express my immense gratitude and appreciation to the citizens, businesses and organizations of Acton for their tremen- dous efforts in the fight for the MSB School Lands. The way this community has come together is truly incred- ible. There is a great deal of passion and dedication here. Participation at the Family Day Rally was outstanding. A big thanks to Tim Hortons for the hot chocolate that kept us warm! I am pleased to announce that we have over 3300 signa- tures on the petition! This will be presented to the HDSB in the near future. This was possible due to the many vol- unteers who knocked on their neighbours doors, spreading the word and distributing posters. Keith Portys efforts in getting the ball rolling are notable. Most importantly, the local businesses and organizations were key to the success of this petition. Special thanks goes out to Royal Jug City, Ac- ton Home Hardware, Giant Tiger, Movie Gallery, Profile Hair Salon, Acton Auto Tech, Acton Optical, Acton BIA, Acton branch of the Halton Hills Public Library, Acton Agricultural Society, McNabb Graphics, Acton Soccer Club, Dollar Stretcher, X-Marks the Fitness Spot, Crossing Com- munity Church, Blue Springs Spa, Godfathers Pizza, Star- light CafDr. Jones Chan, and the MSB Parent Coun- cil. It is important to note the numerous signatures of Georgetown residents on this petition as well. Our Mayor and Town Council have shown great leadership through their in- volvement in this cause and their recent resolution to of- ficially oppose the HDSB decision. We are an impres- sive, spirited community and through our voices and ac- tions I feel optimistic we can make a difference. Acton you should be proud. Kind regards, Allison Jones, Acton Minor ball uses MSB The following email was sent to Halton School Bd Trustee Gerry Ock- enden and filed with The New Tanner for publica- tion On behalf of Acton Minor Ball Association this letter is being writ- ten in extreme opposition to the proposed selling of the playing field area at McKenzie Smith Bennett (MSB) The Acton Minor Ball Association rents both diamonds at MSB every year. We pay the Town for user fees, provide in- surance that covers both the HDSB and the Town, and have recently put in a new concrete base box at the lower diamond. Good quality, mos- quito-free diamond space is limited in Town. Two years ago, when the Pros- pect Park diamonds were unavailable due to con- struction, the only saving grace AMBA had was the lower diamond at MSB. Unfortunately, there was very serious safety con- cerns regarding awell struck hardball hitting a soccer player, as lim- ited space had soccer playing in the outfield. Over-crowding is a con- cern, and by selling off a portion of the fields used for soccer, it can only get worse. The Board of Education is very inconsistent with its message regarding physical fitness, Daily QDF and indoor recess cannot replace running around outside for a full game of tag, baseball or soccer. The Board needs to promote outdoor, quality and inexpensive activities for the kids, not sell the land out from under them to pay for a high priced indoor track that few will likely use. Please bring the con- cerns of the Acton Minor Baseball Association to the Boards attention. Sincerely, Megan Golden Vice President, AMBA Thanks for all the suppport
