Acton Seniors Recreational Centres AGM on Tuesday, February 24 was well attended with 57 members present. Mayor Rick Bonnette brought greetings from the Town, con- gratulated us on our increased membership and praised us for the amount of volunteer hours the Acton Seniors Centre members contribute. He said without volunteers many things would not be possible. When we. As par- ents and grandparents, are involved in volunteering the children usually follow our example. Two amendments to by- laws were discussed, and passed as read. Gerald Ren- nie as head of the nominating committee conducted the elec- tion for two vacant positions on the board. Real Tetreault and Joanne Bissonnette nom- inated and accepting. Mary Walsma is the new President, stepping up from the Vice Presidents position. A draw for a lovely water col- our donated by Maria Sallay was won by Gerald Rennie. First event, new social chairman Real Tetreault will tackle will be a Mystery Din- ner on Monday, March 16. I hope you will all come out and give Real the boost he needs for his first event. I understand many of Victors crew will be there to assist him. Do you shop at Giant Tiger? (Who doesnt?) If you place your cash receipts in the envel- ope at the front desk, for every $100 value of tapes the center will receive a $10 voucher. What a very generous way Giant Tiger is supporting worth-while groups in Acton. This is only for tapes dated from February 17 until March 29. Gather up yours and ask your neighbours, and put them in the envelope. Eileen Dix is thinking Spring! She asked me to men- tion there will be a sign-up sheet for non-competitive, Fun Tennis. They will meet every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at 2:15pm at the Prospect Park tennis courts. She hopes to start on April 14. All you need is a tennis raquet, tennis balls if you have them, suitable foot-wear and a willingness to not take the game to seriously and enjoy yourself while getting much needed exercise. Marg Haring keeps me up to date on carpet bowling. She says last Monday that only five players showed so, they had to persuade Carmen Bis- sonette (who was working on the desk) to join them. They made her the captain for the Black team and Siena Ancker was the captain of the Brown team. Even with Carmans help. The Brown team beat the Black team 17-9. I have to apologize to Ruth Burke. I forgot to mention the mooner she had at last weeks bid euchre. Mary Ir- win was quick to tell me she also had one this week. Ruth also gave me infor- mation on last Wednesdays Rama trip. The 50/50 was won by Yvonne Vander Heyden. The birthday win- ner was Lois Gorman, and in the lucky seats were Janet Andy, Stephen West- way, Gwen Pemberton, Bill Brewer, Yvonne McQuade, Meryl Carr, Grant Greenaway and Jean Syke. Snooker is not just for men, come out March 11 at 1pm and join fellow members for a Snack and Snooker session. If you are interested in going to the matinee performance of The Hamilton Golden Age Variety show in Hamilton at the Theatre Aquarius on Wednesday, April 22, you must sign up now. Members of the centre would like to offer our con- dolences to Marion Pascoe and her family. We will miss seeing Tom at the social din- ners. He was one of our World War 11 RCAF vets. Marion was very proud of the photos and interesting memorabilia Tom allowed us to display at the last two Salute the Vets dinners. Our condolences also go to Real and Jill Tetreault; Reals brother passed away in Florida last week. The 50/50 draw was won last Friday by Tom Walker. Tom was the happy recipient of $185. I am sure Lois will help him spend it.
