Aldershot High School blanked Acton Highs Lady Bearcats 4-0 to take the semi-final A/AA playoffs at the Burlington Central Arena Tuesday March 3. Although the Bearcats were disappointed it was a great season for them winning seven and los- ing three compared to last year when they had a 4-6 record. They feel ready for next year. A warm welcome was given to two new mem- bers who were initiated at our meeting. Welcome aboard Martha Couture and Susan Hamilton. March 7 Zone euchre, Atom Chargers hosted the Erin/Hills- burgh Devils on Feb. 8. but could not pull out the victory loosing 6-3. Mathew Miehme had a breakout game scoring twice with help from Hunter Canary, Dylan Vermeulen, and Malcolm Davidson. Actons other goal was scored by Reilly Constable unassisted. Griffin Cun- neyworth was solid between the pipes. We just were not aggressive enough on the puck and the Devils out skated us, noted Coach Scott Thomson. The Atom Chargers next game came in the form of the Georgetown Raiders on Feb 14. The Raiders came out hard and the Chargers had to match their speed. The Raiders were up 3-0 when the Chargers battled to get back into the game. Malcolm Davidson notched a tally with just over 2 minutes left in the game, and Reilly Con- stable potted his with only seconds left on the clock. Again Griffin Cunneyworth played extremely well to keep the game close. Unfortunately we had a goal called back on us which could have changed the mo- mentum, otherwise we are not disappointed with the out-come remarked Coach Scott Thomson. The Devils returned for a rubber match with the Chargers. This time Acton was much better prepared for the game scor- ing 3 times in last 3 minutes of the first period. Goals from Myles Pratt, Ryan Vermeu- len, and Malcolm Davidson put the Devils in a hole. Helpers on the 3 quick goals went to Reilly Constable, Hunter Canary, Spen- cer Evans, and Dylan Vermeulen. The Chargers kept the pressure on, scoring two more times. Potting the goals were Reilly Constable, and Hunter Canary with assists going to Ryan Vermeulen and Mathew Miehme. Acton was solidly back stopped by James Bursa making timely saves. This was our best game yet, the kids really played the team game we have been looking for, said Coach Scott. The Chargers next home game is March 27 in Acton against EH Devils at 7pm and everyone is invited to come out and sup- port their teams. The four Charger Select teams are all hosting games that evening in Acton starting at 6pm. The Atom Chargers are heading to Jordan for the March Break tournament Mar. 16-17. Atom Chargers split with Devils which was held in Ac- ton, was a great success. Our sports Officer, Marg Bromby deserves a big thank you and credit for all her hard work. All the ladies cooking, helping and donation of prizes deserve a thank you. Appreciation Night: The evening will be held March 21, cocktails at 6 7pm. Followed by honours & awards, and dancing.
