DISTRIBUTION ENGINEER Police caution on false inspectors Halton Regional Police are warning the public to be wary of persons fraudulently misrepresenting themselves as food inspectors to local merchants after an incident Tuesday, March 4, at the Hasty Market retail store on Sixth Line, in Oakville. A woman at the store at 11:45am indicated to the store manager that she was a Food & Water Safety Technician. She presented a business card indicating she was from the Canadian Food Safety Resource Centre from Ottawa. The woman tried to coerce the store manager to purchase a $39.95 testing kit used to detect bacteria, namely Lysteria, in food, police said. The store manager was suspicious and declined. She then tried to coerce the manager into buying by stating he could be liable to health code violations and financial penalties. When this failed the woman left. The suspect is described as being a black female, approximately 50, with a medium build. She had dark shoulder length hair and was wearing a beige coat with a red scarf. Police said, other similar incidents had occurred at Hasty Market locations in Ontario. The Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone with information related to it is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 Ext 2215 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). MEETING NEW FRIENDS: Dermot and Marie Richardson and Ursula and Harry Drinkwater at the New Members Lunch at Acton Seniors Centre last week. Listening to Real talk about his plans for the upcoming year sounds very exciting. The New Members Lunch was well attended, and thank- fully the weather cooperated. It was very interesting to meet and get to know our new members. Hopefully they will become involved in the Centre, whether by participating in some of the programs, such as the exer- cise classes, line dancing, the craft group, playing cards, darts, pool or bingo, or helping out in the kitchen at special occasions. Pat Jones is always look- ing for someone at the reception desk. It involves working four hours every other week. If physically you are un- able to be too active, you could volunteer to go on the phone committee and call members to let them know what is happening during the next two weeks. Carmen Bissonnette looks after the phone committee. Carmen tells me we have a problem as some members have either changed their phone num- bers, or moved and have not let us know. It makes it very hard to keep things current if we dont receive the up- dated information. Carmens phone number is 519-853- 1242. She would love to hear from you, if you are willing to help, or if you need to up date your information Dont forget to collect your (and your friends) cash re- ceipts from Giant Tiger. For every $100 value we receive a $10 gift voucher, which will go a long way to help purchase much needed items for the Centre. This is only for tapes dated from Feb. 17 until March 29. Marg Haring let me know that there were six players at last Mondays carpet bowling. The Brown team beat the Black team 15 to 10. Nevis Bozic was cap- tain of the Brown team and Rose Luoma captain of the Black. Jane McAllister, our pro- gram chair, tells me we have an interesting presentation on March 24, Dreams, your Magic Maker. Dick Haas will be here interpreting dreams. Please sign up if you are coming, as Jane needs to know how many to expect. On April 24 we will be having our Spring Fashion Show. Jane is looking for models again this year. Have you always wanted to be a model? Now is your chance. We will be featuring the latest spring fashions from Alia. The Snooker and Snack date has been changed to March 25 at 2p.m. If you are in the least bit interested, try and drop in on that day. Perhaps we can get some- thing going. At this weeks Thursday afternoon bid euchre game, after much excitement, Mae Milton got her mooner - the only one of the day. Last week we had a late mooner after I left. (I dont spend every moment of the day at the Centre). I knew about Mary Irwins early one, but it seems Betty Brewer had one later so I missed it in last weeks column. Members of the Acton Seniors Centre would like to offer our condolences to Jane Hodges family. Jane was an avid gardener, and enjoyed Monday mor- nings Tai Chi at the Centre and playing cards. The membership com- mittee has been busy calling members who have forgotten to pay their dues for 2009. If you received a call and are intending to renew please pop in and pay as soon as possible. I have just heard that Margaret Anderson was in a car accident, and is in the hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery. Margaret is a very busy person, (on lots of committees), so her hard work will be missed until she is up and about again. Its great to see Donna Rowley is starting to feel a little better, and is attending some of the functions at the Centre. This week the 50/50 was won by Nives Bozic. Nives won $68 Congratu- lations.
