Karen BinchM.A. ????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????? ?????? Literacy North Halton in partnership with Our Kids Network at McKenzie Smith Bennett School in Acton is now offering a daytime computer class for parents on Mondays. This class is focused on parents wishing to re-enter the workplace or use computers for current workplace requirements. The course covers basic computer concepts, and introduction to Word, Excel, Outlook (email) and the internet. Classes run for 8/10 weeks. Cost is $40. Computer literacy is now included in our Read*Spell*Write Program. Do you know an adult who needs help with reading, writ- ing, basic math? Call (905) 873 2200. Daytime adult computer classes offered at MSB Acton Seniors Recrea- tion Centre Board held their first meeting since the 2009 A.G.M. Newly elected President Mary Walsma wel- comed Joanne Bissonnette as Vice President and Real Tetreault to the Social chair position. I am sure they will both be an asset to the Board and the Centre. It was nice to see several different gentlemen playing pool last week. Hopefully they will be out to the Snooker and Snack on March 25 at 2p.m. We really would like to see the pool table used more, and promise to try and not use it as a storage area. Nives phoned me last Monday to give me the re- sults of the carpet bowling. Rosa Luomas black team beat Stella Brunelles brown team 16 to 8. Once more the person at the reception desk was called on to play, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY ACTON SENIORS: Teresa Downey, Irene Breen, Billie Idzi, Annie Leslie, Jill Tetreault. Renata Dzieciol, Shirley Loucks, Lois and Tom Walker, Carmen Bissonnette, Ken Lahey, Mike Milligan, Faye Pink, Wendy Muir, and Lorraine Davis enjoyed cake and ice cream with their guests at the Acton Seniors Centre Birthday tea last Tuesday. Annie Leslie is celebrating her 93rd Birthday this month. Congratulations everyone. (Especially Annie). Julie Conroy photo Joyce Kendall stepped up to the task. They missed Marg Haring who was sick. Have you ever wondered what that dream meant? Dick Haas will be here on March 24 at 2p.m. to tell you the answer. If you are planning to attend, could you please sign the appropriate sign-up sheet. The program commit- tee need to know how many to prepare for. We are hoping to have a Bridge group at the Centre, so if you are interested please sign the appropriate sheet. We do have a couple of names already but need more. Last Tuesdays Birthday Tea was well attended. We had 14 members celebrat- ing their birthdays, plus their guests. If you have your name down for any of the Gals on the Go trips could you please pay as soon as possible so I can confirm numbers. Thirty three people enjoyed the dinner theatre at the Aber- foyle Mill. The dinner was excellent, and the play very professional. I am afraid no one in our group guessed who did it. We are now looking for- ward to our trip to the Theatre Aquarius in April to see the Hamilton Golden Age Var- iety Show. I have to confirm numbers by Friday, March 20 (tomorrow) so if you are interested please let me know. I do need the money right away. Just to let everyone know, there are renovations being made to the office, so please bear with us. Things will be stored in different places for a little while, and space will be at a premium. I am sure once everything is finished it will be wonderful. We might be a little short of space for a while, but whats new? Eileen Dix asked me to mention that the time for the Fun Tennis has changed. The first day will be Tuesday, April 14 at 1.15p.m. at the Prospect Park tennis courts. We still have two rings that are unclaimed and now we have added keys and a walking stick? I am amazed that no one has missed these items. At the Thursday afternoon Bid Euchre, Elma Braida and Ruth Burke both had mooners. They were happy to welcome a new player, Judy Franc. They play every Thursday afternoon at 1p.m. and are usually finished by 3.45p.m. If you would like to join them you would be made very welcome. Over the next couple of weeks members from the Centre will be going to lunch and the Patricks Show at The Black Forest Inn in Conestogo, the warplane museum in Hamilton. lunch at Mother Tuckers followed by the Jersey Boys show in Toronto, the British Isles show in Toronto, Casino Rama and an overnight trip to Windsor Raceway and Slots. Its not just cards and bingo at the Centre. We may be 55 +, but we still have lots of exciting things to look forward to. On a final note, please be aware that parking in front of the Centre (Even if only for a couple of minutes) might get you a $100 parking ticket as one member found out recently. It is a posted fire route. The lady whose name was pulled for the 50/50 on Friday is often here playing cards, but she didnt put her loonie in the box, so the pot grows. Next week it should be around $130.
