This motion will be brought forward at the April 1 council meet- ing. The Canadian economy is current- ly in a recession and a recovery is not anticipated until 2010. These current difficult economic conditions have re- sulted in significant challenges to the taxpayer in the Halton community and I believe we need to take appropriate action, Carr said this week. Traditionally, staff has developed the Budget Directions for Council approval in the summer of the preced- ing year, a document that outlines the parameters and guidelines used to cre- ate the upcoming years budget. The Chairs proposed motion also directs staff to bring this document forward for council approval in the spring in- stead to allow for adequate time for preparation and implementation. Carrs motion will be discussed at the Regional Council meeting on April 1 at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Cham- bers at the Halton Regional Centre. By Frances Niblock All of the 30 Acton area and Halton Hill residents whose land will be affected by Hydro Ones plan to twin its existing power corridor from the Bruce Power Facil- ity to Hydro Ones Milton switching station have re- ceived voluntary settlement offers from Hydro land agents. Hydro One i s seek- ing approval to build a 180-kilometre double-circuit 500-kilovolt transmission line on a widened existing transmission corridor, and through the Action area the line will be twinned to the west of the exiting corridor, not the east as originally proposed. In Erin, the new line would be built to the east of the existing corridor. In Hal- ton Hills a switchover will be built just south of High- way 7 between the Fourth and Fifth Lines, just east of Acton. That configuration results in no forced buyouts of Acton property compared It is now much easier to pay speeding or parking ticket as the Town instituted a new payticjets.ca system on Monday. Anyone issued an Ontario Provincial Of- fences Act violation such as traffic tickets, seat belt infractions and speeding tickets can now pay the fine on-line using either a VISA or MasterCard. For a fee of $1.50 for a parking ticket and $3.00 for a provincial offence, people can now go on line and use payticket.ca. to pay the ticket. Currently the only way to pay park- ing tickets is in person at the municipality, by calling the Town and using a credit card or by mail. In a briefing last week to Town Council, Patricia Thielan with the Towns Information Services, said the new program is a huge cus- tomer service iniative that will also give staff more time to deal with other matters. She also said the site is very secure and payments go right into the Towns general ledger. Thielan was unable to say how much pay- ticket.ca receives from each fine paid, but said there is a percentage fee paid. While discussing tickets, Regional and Town Councillor Jane Fogal said shes had com- plaints that a number of residents in the Glen Williams area had been issued with $30 Continued on Page 2 Hydro corridor land owners here have voluntary settlement offers Hydro hopes to avoid expropriation Continued on Page 2 Carr calls for Region tax freeze Town fines can now be paid online Dr. David Vanderbent is being honoured by an evening on Friday, April 3.
