Acton Novice Chargers travelled to Jordan to play in a two day March Break tournament on Monday, March 16 and made it to the semi-finals. In Actons first game they would meet a tough competitor in the Kiwanis Starts. Kiwanis opened the scoring 4 minutes into the game, Acton would respond with 43 seconds remaining in the first with a goal from Jack Kennedy with the lone assist going to Kyle Spen- ce. In the 2nd, Kiwanis once again took the lead, only to have Jake Case respond Sharks, Lightning earn spot in Championship this Friday Last Friday night were the final games for Acton Ladies Hockey round robin playoffs. Both games were closely fought matches and both games ended in a 2 -2 tie. In the first game both goalies stymied their op- position ending the period scoreless. In the second period DL Greig scored for the Acton Optical Lightning from a face off from teammate Daina Mc- Kellar. The X Marks the Fitness Spot Sharks tied it up with a goal from Kari Cooper assisted by Karen Foster and Shelly Dodds. After that Daina McKellar scored for the Lightning on an unassisted goal. The Sharks fought back when Carrie Gallant scored on a break away, executing a nifty deek, assisted by An- Sharks, Lightning in championship Acton Ladies Hockey and Jane Tivendale on an unassisted goal late in the second period. Scoring for the Cougars was Leanne Monaghan unassisted and Mary Lou Dixon with as- sists going to Ute Cole and Pamela Ireland. This Friday has the last games of the season. The first game is the consolation game at 10pm with the DNR Contracting Novice Chargers in Semi 12 seconds later on a great passing play by Nicolas Jones. Going into the 3rd period tied at 2, Noah St. Denis gave the Chargers a lead that they never gave up, coming out on top 3-2. A great way to start a tournament, great game to watch, everyone played hard, Justin Percy played awesome in goal! said coach Case. Acton then faced the host Jordan Lions in what would be another close and hard fought game. Jordan opened the scoring 3 min- utes in, with Noah St. Denis responding just 15 seconds later with an unassisted goal. The Lions scored 2 goals in the 2nd period. Trailing 3-1 heading into the 3rd period, Jake Case would score an early short- handed goal with assists going to Liam Weir and Nicolas Jones. Thats close as Acton would get falling by a score of 3-2. On Tuesday the Chargers faced the Welland Tigers coming out strong with Jake Case scoring unassist- ed 5 minutes into the game. In the 2nd period, with ag- gressive fore-checking from Noah St. Denis, Noah stole nette Kroezen. In the second game the DNR Contracting Dev- ils had the game at 2 0 until half way through the second period when the Staying Alive Fitness Cougars scored and then scored again with less than two minutes to go in the game. Scoring for the Devils was Heather Monk assisted by Erin Donnelly Devils facing off against the Staying Alive Fitness Cougars. T h e C h a m p i o n s h i p game is at 11pm with the X Marks the Fitness Spot Sharks squaring off against the Acton Optical Light- ning. This should prove to be some great fast action hockey.
