We had a typical Quebec meal. Starting with Pea Soup (Thanks to Tan- ners kitchen) sausage, ham, sautotatoes, home made baked beans, and pancakes (with maple syrup) followed by fresh fruit, and sugar pie. The art of making maple syrup was on the place mats with the menu which was a nice touch. The 50/50 was won by Linda Van Der Laan, the door prizes by Helen Jocque, Kathy San- ford, Trina Noel, Marj Allen, Flora Barber, Shirley Broos- tad, Frances Hogenbirk, and Rhona Peregrine. As usual the Gang from the Hill provided toe tapping music, which was in keeping with the Quebecois theme. The 17 people who went to the Canadian War Plane Mu- seum in Hamilton enjoyed the day. For a change there were almost as many men as ladies. I felt as if I was back in school, as our guide was asking if we knew what kind of plane we were looking at. Luckily for me, sometime I was near a sign I could read, so I didnt look quite as dumb. I was amazed how knowledge- To the editor Please help save our wading pool. It would be a shame to see that pool close down. It has been a part of Actons history for approximately 60 years. From what I hear the pool was paid for by the citizens of Acton. I know what the arguments are about clos- ing the pool, its old, the maintenance is costly and it has to be supervised by a lifeguard. If is too old for continued mainten- ance perhaps its time for a new wading pool, not elimination of the pool all together. I grew up in that pool; it is where I became com- fortable in the water. My grandchildren are now using it. I watched them go from holding grandmas hand to working up the nerve to wade swim and practice new skills on their own. Now my two oldest, 4 and 6, look so forward to coming to grandmas house, walking down to the park and spending the afternoon swimming and picnicking. They say its the most fun pool they have swam in. Now dont get me wrong, I have nothing against a splash pad. I know the perfect location. The bat- ting cages! I have never seen them used and the water connections are right there. If there is anyone out there that feels the same way I do, lets pool together and see if we can save the pool. Its not too late; I hear council will make their de- cision on April 06. I feel very strongly about this. What can we do? Help. Nancy Thompson THE MURPHY GIRLS DECKED OUT IN GREEN: Acton Seniors Centre Board member Connie Fix, with her cousin from Quebec Ghyslaine Lebreux, Gladys Desbarres (Northern Ontario) and her sister Jeannie Murphy also from Quebec (Peeping over their shoulders is Sue Robbins). They enjoyed their visit and especially celebrating St Patricks at the Mystery Dinner at the Acton Sen- iors Centre on March 16th. - Julie Conroy photo able our group was. (Including some of the ladies). Our guide at the museum was excellent, and obviously enjoyed his task of explaining the history of the planes. I never realized there were so many planes at the museum. Close up, some looked so tiny, with cramped cockpits; you would wonder how they ever managed to fly any distance, especially when he said some of the skins were made of wood and canvas. I was hoping to take a pic- ture of Phyllis Bunn next to either the Anson or Bolling Brok Planes. She was an aerial photographer during the war. Sad to say I dropped and broke the camera. Betty Green tells me the St. Patricks Day trip to the Black Forest Inn was excellent and again there were 17 people. They shopped first at Bo-De Sweets in Waterloo, and then went on to the Inn. She says the dinner and show were excellent, and the weather perfect for driving around and hopping on and off the bus. Betty asked me to remind people that to book the Great Canadian trips you must pay at least three weeks ahead of the trip date. It saves a lot of phone calls. I met Nevis at the Acton Horticultural society meet- ing the other evening and she gave me the carpet bowl- ing results. Stella Brunelles Black team won beating Pat Galtons Brown team 10 to 9. Joyce Kendall must have enjoyed playing the week be- fore as she joined them again this week. At the Thursday afternoon Bid Euchre, Frances Hogen- birk had the only mooner. At last weeks evening eu- chre only seven people turned up to play. Bill Brewer had the lone hand, Mae Milton the high score, and Fran Mor- ris had the boobie. Fran Said it was a disappointing turnout. If there arent more people for the next game on Wednesday, April 15 at 7.15p.m the games will be cancelled until Fall. Bev Jones says that now Spring has officially arrived it wont be long before our Spring Bazaar. It will be on Saturday, May 9 from 11am. 2p.m. The bazaar commit- tee is asking for donations of crafts, books (Please, NO hard cover books), puzzles, games, Continued on Page 9
