We were empty it was just awful the back end of our storage area was really empty, but its perfect now because we can keep going for the next two months or so, said Acton FoodShare chair Arlene Humphreys on Monday. FoodShare relies on the annual Scout/Guide/Cal- vinist Cadet food drive to stock its shelves and Hum- phreys said once again, Acton residents were gen- erous with their donations, at a time when they are es- pecially needed. We have so many new clients. We usually get one new household a week signing up for food, but lately weve had as many as five new households a week with people you dont expect, Humphreys said, adding they expect clients who are single or have disabilities, but now see an increasing number of families who just cant make ends meet because of job loss or reduced hours. Normally, we give out approximately 2,000-pounds of food. We used to see 15 fam- ilies on a normal day and now were getting 20 to 25 families, she said, adding that they remain NATIONAL SCRAPBOOKING DAY: Karen Blatz and Shelley Wira came out to St. Albans Church on Saturday to enjoy a full day of everything to do with scrap booking, which was held by Tammy Somer- ville. Anyone who needs food and lives locally can use the FoodShare services by filling out a form at the food banks Church- ill Road depot beside Macs variety store. The form asks for information including income and housing costs and people can still receive food on their first visit if they dont have that information with them until a subsequent visit. FoodShare, which is run by eight volunteers, is open on Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Humphreys said ac- commodations could be made for people who cant get there during that time. Anyone who was missed during Saturdays food drive can call FoodShare at 519-853-0457 and leave a message for pickup. Do- nations of food are also being accepted at Sobeys, Prosperity One and Beth- el Church. CURVES CARES: Curves Acton held its Annual Curves Food Drive to benefit the Acton Foodshare, and were asking people to bring in food items to be do- nated. Curves was also offering to waive their normal service fee for any new member who brought in a bag of non-perishable groceries and joined between March 2 and March 21. There was a total of 387 pounds of food gathered. Picking up the food were Foodshare volun- teers Real Tetreault, and Bert VanderLaan with circuit trainer Meaghann Williams - Marie Shadbolt photo EWCS gets new van for seniors East Wellington Com- munity Services has been awarded a brand new mini van by the Water- loo-Wellington Local Health Integrate Network (LIHN) to provide trans- portation for seniors and people with disabilities. The van provides rides for people who need to attend medical and personal appointments throughout the region, for a nominal fee. A team of volunteer drivers has al- ready provided rides for seniors to appointments in Guelph, Shelburne, Fergus and Orangeville. Anyone in need of transportation, please allow at least two days notice can call Volun- teer Coordinator, Kelly Stockdale at 519-833- 9696 ext 222 to discuss needs and costs.
