Traci Gardner photo Chambers Home & Leisure show termed a success By Frances Niblock A good crowd, a wide range of businesses and interesting prizes helped make the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerces Home and Leisure show a suc- cess on the weekend. Forty-three local business- es rented booths at the show that saw approximately 1,300 people come through the door of the Acton arena/community centre on the weekend. It was awesome and the vendor surveys showed that people thought the show was great because it gave them a lot of exposure and one-stop shopping for a lot of services including health care, home renovation, financial services, retail businesses and home decorating. said Sue Walk- er, the Chambers general manager on Tuesday, adding the numbers were what they hoped for. The highlight of the show was seeing the people come through the door to support us. The show fit in nicely with the Shop Local campaign and was well attended. Walker said one local com- pany, Epoxy Solutions of Acton said they got a lot of bang for the buck at the week- end show. A company official said theyd been to a trade show in Toronto the previous weekend where 500 people came through the door and they got one good contact, but at the Acton show there were 1,300 people through the door and they got five contacts. This was the first year that the show, staged every two years, was held in Acton, a decision made because the vendors wanted the show staged be- fore they got busy next month. The ice was removed from the Acton arena earlier than at the usual venue, Mold-Masters Arena in Georgetown. The booths rented for $525 for early registrants and rose to $875 for those who waited until the last minute, and al- though Walker said that fee is at the higher end of the range for similar shows, most vend- ors felt that it was money well spent. Walker said in the coming weeks the show organizers will review this years event and look to the next show, includ- ing the possibility of staging it every year instead of every two years. POLICE BEAT Parking expensive Someone parked on Mill Street in front of MacKinnon Funeral Home on April 15 returned to find their vehicles front bumper and license plate smashed in, after only 40 minutes. Damage is esti- mated at $500. Up in smoke A mini-van parked on Country Lane Crescent was broken into overnight on April 14. Thieves broke into the corporate owned vehicle via a smashed window and took $2,800 worth of cigarettes.
