Held in Halton Region Museums Hearth Room, the Jazz series is a fundraising event for the Foundation in support of the museums capital renovation campaign. The jazz series was such a success in 2009, it has been extended into the New Year, said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. The new line-up represents a wide range of jazz interests presented by talented musicians from all over the GTA. These musical sessions, staged in a beautiful setting, provide an experience that is both meaningful and memorable. Jazz at the Museum 2010 kicks off on Sunday, Janu- ary 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. with music from Drew Jurecka on violin and Jesse Barksdale, guitar. This pair of tal- ented musicians, who count Django Reinhard, Dizzie Gillespie and Louis Armstrong among their influences, are members of the Hot Jazz String Quartet. Their unique gypsy jazz sound will perfectly complement the museums rustic charm, with its hand-cut stone walls and fireplace, said Steve Baker, Museum Foundation Chairman and Jazz Series spokesperson. On Sunday, February 14 the Vickie Van Dyke Trio takes the stage for Valentines Day. Vickies smooth jazz vocals have earned her a dedicated following. The Sul- tans of String, a five piece band that leaves no musical genre untouched, performs on Sunday, March 14. The bands repertoire includes everything from gypsy jazz to rumba to flamenco. Tickets are available for $20 at the door and include the entertainment and complimentary light snacks. There is also a cash bar (beer and wine). Seating is on a first come first served basis. On entering Kelso Conservation Area, Jazz series guests should mention to gate staff that they are visiting the museum specif- ically, so they do not incur Kelso Conservation Area admission fees.
