As I write this Christ- mas is almost here, so I hope everyone has a won- derful Christmas with their friends over the holiday season. New this year is the fact that the Centre will be open between Christ- mas and the New Year. Our hours of opening will be on Monday December 28, Tuesday December 29, and Wednesday December 30, and closing at noon on December 31. We realize that some people may be on their own over the holi- days, so if you are looking for a cozy chat, some fun games, and a cup of cof- fee, drop in and visit. It will be very lonely for the person at the front desk if no one takes advantage of the opening hours. I was asked about the next 50/50 draw. It will be held on Thursday Decem- ber 24 at 11:30 a.m. The box will be out during the holidays, with the 50/50 taking place on Thursday December 31 at 11:30 a.m. If you are unable to come to the Centre during the holidays, you can always ask a friend to put the loon- ie in for you. I understand the fit and fun and gentle exercise classes will at their usual time on Wednesday De- cember 30. The Thursday morning Canasta group has decided to take a break dur- ing the holiday, but if you feel like coming down and playing I am sure someone will be glad to play with you. Thursday afternoon Bid Euchre had ten players this week including one gentle- man. Muriel Dzieciol had the only mooner. Do you make phone calls for us, volunteer in a var- iety of ways at the Centre whether regularly every week helping with lunches, bingo, at the front desk, etc, or occasionally with the bazaars social events etc.,? Did you know that there is a book specifically for you to write your volunteer hours in? This is fairly re- cent, so we can now easily track the volunteer hours and ensure we receive any grants we are eligible for. (Even if you only volunteer one hour occasionally). Every members name is in the book, so please help us keep track of everyones hours. In the New Year the travel desk are planning two trips to fight the win- ter blues. The first is to Cambridge and Flamboro on Thursday January 14 to shop at Southworks Out- let Mall and then enjoy the buffet lunch at the Holiday Inn in Cambridge before going to visit the Flamboro Downs. The second trip is on Wednesday February 10 with lunch at Burlingtons Mother Tuckers Market- p lace , fo l lowed by a performance of Swing away the Winter Blues at the Sanderson Centre in Brantford. Jane asked me to men- tion that the next Birthday Tea will be held on Tues- day January 12 at 2:00 p.m. This is to celebrate all members who were born in December or January. (That means me!). On Tuesday January 26, Pauline Barlow will be teaching us how to create a Fridge Magnet. You will be painting roses using a toothpick. There is a charge of $5 to cover the cost of materials. It is very import- ant that anyone who wishes to participate, sign up as Pauline has to purchase the materials required. The sign up sheet will be at the front desk from January 8 to January 22 only as only 20 people can be accom- modated. There is a sign up infor- mation sheet in front of the front desk to see if there is any interest in visiting the Halton Hills Sports Hall of Fame in Georgetown. Check out the informa- tion on the various sign up sheets. Another way to fight the winter blues is to plan on attending the Chinese Din- ner on Thursday January 7. Real tells me it features all things Chinese - food, fruits, and entertainment. Knowing Real and his committee it will be excel- lent. I hear that our favourite songstress is in the hospi- tal at the moment, get well soon Nettie, as we miss you at Friday lunches and Bingo. LET US WELCOME YOU! Our Hostess will bring gifts and greetings, along with helpful information about your new community. Call Betty Ann 853-1944
