Coming off a win against the Hawks in Acton only three days earlier, the Tan- ners beat the Hawks 3-2 in Caledon in a riveting, action packed game. Less than two minutes into the game, Tanners forward Tristan Wight snagged a loose puck after an in- tense scramble just to the side of the Hawks net and scored the first goal with a back hand shot while on his knees. The assist went to Stuart McDonald. The Hawks scored the only other goal in the period to end it 1-1. It only took a couple minutes for the Tanners to get their second goal when Dylan Palmer flipped one past the Hawks goalie. As- sists went to McDonald and Wight. Once again, the Hawks tied it up be- fore the period ended. Half way through the third, Nic Jones fired what would be the winning shot into the Hawks net after beating their defence on a rush, giving the Tanners a 3-2 lead. With close game ex- citement, the Tanners took a penalty with just over one minute left to play. The Hawks pulled their goalie to make it 6 on 4, but thanks to some great saves by Tanners goal- ie Sebastian Woods and some excellent plays by the Tanners defence, the Hawks were kept at bay. The show stopper came at the end when a Cal- edon player got control of the puck right in front of the Tanners net and fired one at Woods with only seconds left to play, but Woods made an incredible save that won the Tanners the game. The Tanners also trav- elled to Orangeville last week to face the Flyers for the last game before the Christmas break. The coaching staff switched up the lines completely for a little excitement by put- ting the regular defence up front and bringing five forwards back, to give everyone a chance to play a different position. While the game ended in a 2-0 win for Orangeville, The kids all did well be- cause they believed in themselves and we were very proud of them for adapting so well and giv- ing it their all, Coach Scott Holmes said of the switch. The Novice Tan- ners broke for Christmas with a 12-9-4 record and have three more regular season games to play in the New Year before play- offs start.
