The 20ML water res- ervoir will bring Lake Ontario water to the 401 employment corridor that runs parallel to Steeles Avenue in Halton Hills and to Milton. When Town Council ap- proved a zoning change to allow construction of the reservoir, Georgetown Councillor Bryan Lewis noted that there was an agreement that Third Line residents would be able to use the water from the pipe going past their homes in case of a fi re. An environmental as- sessment determined that the best location for the reservoir is a 3.8-hectacre site that Halton will pur- chase from the owners of Andrews Scenic Acres. A Town rezoning was required because the pro- posed reservoir is not permitted under existing zoning as it does not solely service people of Halton Hills. Halton pay questioned Do raises for Haltons workers exceed those be- ing awarded to private sector employees? Thats the question asked by several Halton council- lors following the recent approval of the Regions budget which includes an overall 2.5 per cent in- crease in the base salaries of Haltons 1,250 non- union workers whose pay increases are based on pay for performance basis. One councillor asked why staff only use public wage sector comparisons to determine how much of a raise to approve for 2010. Burlington Council- lor John Taylor questioned why Halton would not look at what wages people who pay property taxes in Halton will receive. Staff said work done by muni- cipal staff often does not have a public sector com- parator.
