Town Hall bash a blast By Frances Niblock 2010 was ushered in with great style at the Town Hall Centre on New Years Eve with a double bell ringing, a balloon drop, dancing, food and family fun. Hundreds of people mainly young families played and partied at the first annual New Years bash. The kids enjoyed face painting, craft mak- ing and dancing while their parents also took to the dance floor to the tunes being played by Party Cinemas staff who donated proceeds from the night to the Town Hall restoration fund. This was a wonderful addition to New Years. This was more than I expected and my three kids are thrilled with the night, said Acton resi- dent Stacey Oke who said shed be back with her family next year. Gina Girouard, who was with her husband, six-year-old daughter and friends said the whole night, was awesome. This really was a family fun night. If we hadnt come here we probably would have stayed home because of the cost of go- ing out. Were hoping that it happens next year be- cause where else can you go with your family and have this kind of fun? Carla Bedard and her family had a great time, but she wished there were more games for the younger kids to do. When they played a gummy bear song my kids were up and dancing, but the other music didnt interest them. The kids did have a good time and wed come back another year, Bedard said. I had no idea what it was going to be like to- night and it was fantastic, said Cayle Driedger who was there with his wife and two small children. The kids loved it and the adults had fun so it was a great night all round, he said, adding they would be back next year. Each of the children re- ceived a ticket and just before 9:30 p.m. one was drawn from a hat and the lucky winner David Somerville, 5 got to ring the Town Hall bell with a little help from his dad at 9:30 p.m. At midnight, Hartley Coles, Actons Citizen of the Year repeated the bell ringing to help usher in the New Year. Its a real pleasure to help ring in another dec- ade its also an honour and Im really pleased to be here, Coles said as he prepared to pull the heavy rope to ring the bell, sur- rounded by his family and friends. Heritage Acton chair Ron Birrell was thrilled with the turnout at the party and the proud to show off all of the reno- vation work that has been done at the hall. This was over the top. It was an overwhelming success. The young fam- ilies had something to do that was fun and didnt cost a lot and the kids loved what we planned for them, Birrell said, adding next year will be bigger and better. Organizers estimated that approximately 250 people enjoyed the night.
