You l ikely not iced the change of name in the heading - I am writ- ing this weeks column while Julie takes a well- deserved rest. We have great news. Starting this week we will be seeing a lot more of our Co-ordinator, Wendy Krever. She will spend one more day a week planning, organiz- ing and overseeing events at the Centre. She will be in the office on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Her schedule is posted outside her office. On Wednesday April 21, the Travel Committee is arranging a trip to the Black Forest Inn in Con- estoga (Near St. Jacobs). After enjoying a delicious country-style meal there will be a Country Music Show, featuring many look-alike and sound-alike entertainers. What trip to Mennonite country would be complete without a vis- it to Picards Peanuts and Bo-Dee sweets. The Monday morning craft ladies are still making the attractive oval wood- en name tags for Centre members. These name tags are great to wear at any function so others will know your name. If you would like one just leave $5 in an envelope, with your name exactly as you want it written, at the front desk. It will then be passed to the ladies. It will take up to three weeks to make the name tag. Ruth Burke asked me to mention that the items knitted (baby hats etc) go to orphanages in Siberia. Francis Hogenbirk had the only mooner in Bid Euchre. The Hikers visited the trail on Dublin Line, nick- named the Valentines Trail by them but thats a story for another time! Income Tax time - If your annual income is $25,000 or less (single person) or $30,000 or less (a couple) you qualify for free help with your return. Links2Care (519-853- 3310) will give you an appointment for a Thurs- day evening, starting February 25, throughout March. The Acton Library (519-853-0301) will put you on their list for tax help on Thursday, March 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. No date has been set yet for a tax clinic at the Elizabeth Drive seniors building. Muriel Hartwick was the lucky winner of this weeks 50/50 draw, win- ning $64. Olympic competition - Many of the weekly ac- tivities displayed some fierce competition this week, as Olympic med- als were at stake - all played in good spirit and fun. In Carpet Bowling, the brown team of Mary Walsma, Shirley Kruk and Marg Haring won. The winning Darts team includes Don Byers, Marg Bromby and Joyce Mar- rows. Siena Ancker was the winner in Shuffleboard. For Tai Chi, it was Phil Powell. The Euchre winners were Francis Hogenbirk and Shirley Hunter. Both Fitness Classes participated - winners were Barbara Currie, Joan Leavens, Lorraine Davis (Gentle Fitness) and Nives Bozic, Judi Wan- ders, Sylvia Mitchell (Fit `n` Fun). For Canasta, it was Gerry Kroezen and Stel- la Brunelle, with Loretta Ivanyshyn for Crafts. The Olympic-theme din- ner was held on Tuesday when the Olympic Med- als were presented. Our special guest was George Henderson, dressed in his Olympic outfit and carry- ing his Olympic torch, which he had carried in Oshawa. The Gang-on-the- Hill entertained us with their great music, with some dancing and others singing along to their fa- vourites. Ponder this: How old would you be if you didnt know how old you were? WELCOME: Shelia Jeffrey is one of the volunteers who take turns greeting people at the front desk of the Acton Seniors Centre. Submitted photo By Eileen Dix
