New requirements for the training and testing of security guards and private investigators working in Ontario will establish higher profes- sional standards. A new basic Training and Testing Regulation, under the Private Se- curity and Investigative Services Act, 2005 will: Starting April 15, re- quire those applying to become security guards or private investiga- tors, who have not been issued a licence before this date, to undergo a mandatory training program and pass a test before they can be li- censed. Beginning July 16, re- quire existing security guard or private investi- gator licence holders to pass the mandatory test prior to the expiry of their current licence in order to complete its renewal. The act is the first up- date of private security legislation since 1966 and has helped modernize the industry by establishing a code of ethics, setting standards for uniforms and vehicles and requir- ing all practitioners in the industry to be trained and licensed. Donation boxes for March of Dimes will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until March 31. March of Dimes Canada has the goal of enhancing the independence and community participation of people with physic- al disabilities every day through a wide range of programs and services that support over 40,000 people annually across Ontario. Funds raised through the LCBO dona- tion program will benefit Conductive Education (CE), an innovative pro- gram that blends elements of education and rehabili- tation to help children and adults with physical disabilities gain greater mobility and improve self- confidence. The program has proven especially beneficial to children with cerebral palsy, ataxia and other motor-neuro disabil- ities, as well as to stroke survivors, people with Parkinsons disease and multiple sclerosis. In addition to the CE program, March of Dimes Canada serves the public by funding programs and administering govern- ment-funded programs that provide essential sup- port, such as job placement services, assistive device funding and home and vehicle modifications; by providing important fee- for-service programs to consumers, such as attend- ant care, recreational and social activities and peer- to-peer support networks; as a supplier to Ontarios business community pro- viding advanced employee and client care, including assessment services and sensitivity and awareness training; through advo- cacy and government relations. March of Dimes is one of 26 provincial, as well as numerous local charities, that will benefit from the LCBOs in-store dona- tion box program in 2010. In 2009, LCBO raised a total of $4.2 million for charities through special programs and initiatives, of which $3.8 million was raised through in-store fundraising. In addition, LCBOs annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which to- talled $1.4 billion in fiscal 2008-09, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education. March of Dimes thanks the public for its support when shopping at their lo- cal LCBO store during the month of March.
