THE NEW TANNERTHURSDAY, MARCH 4, 2010 13 Bantam BB Tanners semi finalists The RM Construc- tion Atom AE Tanners split home-and-home games with Dundas. In the first, Acton traveled to Dundas and lost 4-2. The Tanners opened the scoring with only four seconds remaining in the first period on a goal from Tanner Canary with help from Nathan Pines. Dun- das was all over Acton in the second period scoring three times. Trailing 3-1 entering the final frame, Noah St. Denis picked up a loose puck in the corner, centered a pass to an open Cam Shoebridge making it a 3-2 game. With just over five minutes remain- ing, Dundas made it a two goal game, never looking back. In a must win game at home, Acton played a strong defensive game. With very few scoring chances by both Acton and Dundas, the game remained scoreless until early into the second per- iod when on a rebound, Canary knocked one into the opposing teams net, with assists from Ian Davies and Pines. Midway through the second period after kill- ing off a long 5 on 3, Pines scored to give the Tanners a 2-0 lead with the lone helper going to Canary. Dundas kept coming hard in the third period, finally getting one by the Acton goaltender James Bursa on a rebound, cut- ting the lead to one. When Dundas pulled their goalie and put some pressure in the dying seconds, Can- ary was able to clear the zone getting the puck to Cam Knight who scored into the empty net giving Acton a much deserved 3-1 win. In a must win game, I was really proud of the effort that our boys put forth. We played hard the entire game as a team and received timely saves from Bursa, said coach Steve Caldwell. Dundas has turned out to be our biggest rivals this season, so it was great to beat them. We have two tough games coming up against Centre Wellington and Arthur (who finished in second place in the regu- lar season), so we will need to be ready. Asked to name a play- maker or a star in the championships, Clayton said the entire team played so well that she couldnt single anyone out for spe- cial praise. They all played the best weve ever seen them play they were focused, determined and they real- ly wanted to win this, Clayton said, adding they almost lost a regular sea- son game to Pearson, their rival. The team won because of a combination of skills, high energy and smart play, Jennet said.
