Our MPP Reports by Ted Arnott MPP Wellington - Halton Hills In a question in the Ontario Legislature last week, Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott demanded to know when Pre- mier Dalton McGuinty would unveil his governments hospital construction plan. They need to demonstrate that they actually have an honest planning process, and arent just giving communities the run-around, Arnott said following his exchange with Health Minister Deb Mat- thews. In a June 2009 interview with Premier McGuinty, the Waterloo Region Record reported that hospital expansion might be included in a 10-year construction plan, which the government was to unveil last fall. Its now the beginning of March of the following year, Arnott pointed out. When does the Premier really plan to unveil his now 11-year construction plan for hospitals? Groves Memorial Community Hospi- tal, in Fergus, is one of approximately 70 hospitals still waiting for government approval to proceed with redevelopment plans. Weve been working [on the Groves proposal] for seven years, and our pa- tients are, well, running out of patience! quipped Arnott. Notwithstanding the Liberal govern- ments substantial provincial deficit, Arnott believes that planning for new hospital construction must be allowed to continue. We understand that there is a multi- stage approval process, and that new hospitals arent built overnight, Arnott acknowledged. However, we will need this new hospital in Centre Wellington in the future, and we should be making progress, every single month, toward that goal. Looking for a unique way to beat the win- ter blues? Consider a trip to the Halton Re- gion Museum in Kelso Conservation Area. The Museums monthly con- cert series featuring some of the finest jazz musicians from across the GTA and throughout southern Ontario con- tinues on Sunday, March 14 with a performance by Sultans of String. Jazz at the Museum continues to attract a loyal following based on the talent of the featured performers, said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. The charming venue and the top-notch performers make for a winning com- bination. Held in Halton Region Museums Hearth Room, the Jazz series is a fund- raising event for the Halton Museum Foun- dation in support of the Museums capital reno- vation campaign. Sultans of String band members Chris McKhool and Kevin Laliberte are members of the 2009 In- strumental Group of the Year.
