Baptiste dOttawa (the Evangelical Baptist Church are of Ottawa) collecting tents, sleeping bags and tarps for shipment to Port- au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. Response has been pretty good to our appeal, said Allan Jensen, spokes- man for MADMEHN, but of course we want to collect as much as we can. Jensen adds: There is also a need for blankets, and hygiene supplies like soap, tooth- brushes and toothpaste. To date, his group has assembled some 40 sleep- ing bags, and a similar number of tents and tarps which they will transport to Ottawa on March 28 to join the rest of the ship- ment being sent later that week. The MADMEHN hope to triple the amount collected so far, and appeal to other church groups and individuals to support their efforts. We are very, very grate- ful for the cheerful and generous response weve seen so far, Jensen said, Were hoping that other churches, businesses, and individuals in Acton and Georgetown will spread the word about this urgent need weve got lots of room in our volunteers trucks. It isnt overstating things to say that dona- tions of this nature will directly and significantly change the lives of a Hai- tian family in need. The MADMEHN will continue to accept dona- tions of new and used equipment until March 24. Please call Allan Jensen at 519-929-9138 or Jacques Rheaume at 519-853-9556 to arrange for pick-up or drop-off.
