The Everton Acad- emy of Culinary Arts on Hwy. 24 is the place to be every Thursday mor- ning at 7:30 until 8:45 a.m. for the groups weekly breakfast meet- ing. A membership fee of $200 (plus $10 per breakfast) includes the cost of regular speakers on topics such as how to keep motivated and in- formation on developing networking skills. On- g o i n g e d u c a t i o n a l training is a feature of the organization provid- ing both inspiration and valuable business exper- tise to its members. Each week a member of the networking group is invited to put their own individual enterprise in the spotlight sharing updates about their busi- ness or service. This is a positive ex- perience. We exchange referrals and the informa- tive speakers support our goals, said group mem- ber and real estate agent Jennie Stanhope. The local networking focus group is a diverse mix of businesses and services including asset management , event planning, real estate agents, home goods/ services and property maintenance. Formed in January 2007 to address network- ing challenges by sharing ideas and experiences, the group also offers moral support to local businesses. The groups premise is simple busi- ness isnt easy. Independent of the r e c e n t l y d i s s o l v e d Rockwood Eramosa Business Association (REBA), the Rockwood Business and Networking Group is open to new members help ing area entrepreneurs to become more productive and successful in their chosen endeavours. Networking in Rockwood Foodbank accepts donations By Denise Paulsen A ready supply of food is something that most of us take for granted. If were running low on food or toiletries, we make a trip to the grocery store. For some families in the community, how- ever, it isnt that simple. The Rockwood Food- bank is a relief to people in the village who find themselves experiencing a shortage of food and other essential items. Generous donations of necessary supplies are welcomed Monday, and again on Wednesday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Housed within the New To You store on Church Street (behind Rockwoods St. Johns Anglican Church), the foodbank is run through EWAG services, and is affiliated with the food- bank program in Erin. Darci Burgess is the office co-ordinator at the Rockwood branch where families who find them- selves in need are treated with respect. To protect customer confidentiality, donations are discour- aged on Tuesdays. The families are invited to pay a visit to the foodbank, on a Tuesday of each month, to pick up what food and toiletries they require for the coming four weeks. The Rockwood food- banks goal is to provide the average family with one weeks worth of sup- plies to supplement their monthly needs. Were happy to receive both cold and hot cer- eals, peanut butter, lunch snacks pudding cups and cookies canned fruit and vegetables. People often forget that we are always looking for toilet- ries grooming products shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes, Bur- gess said. Donations of food and essential items, to help the less fortunate in the Rockwood community, are welcomed year- round. PASSPORT WINNERS: Sandra Morrill, Janet Clevely, Colleen Baeumler, Peggy Johnston, Genny Barlow and Lynn Nokes were the six winners of the Passport to Businesses in your own Backyard competition, sponsored by 12 Rockwood businesses. Winners met with some of the participating business owners last Saturday. Denise Paulsen photo
