Across the road from Christ the King School A FOND FAREWELL: Pat Patterson (centre) was one of the original members of Dave and Margaret Dodgsons creative cooking crew that produced delicious meals at the various social events at the Acton Seniors Centre several years ago. They are mov- ing to Tilsonburg and at a recent goodbye party, Pat presented them with a cake and thanked them for their many years of dedicated hard work. Julie Conroy photo ????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????? ?????? One hundred people enjoyed the April in Paris social dinner. It was also a tribute to Marg and Dave Dodgson, who are mov- ing to Tilsonburg shortly. Mary Walsma mentioned some of the many ways they had contributed to the enjoyment and suc- cess of the Acton Seniors Centre, including the great tradition they started with the monthly social din- ners. Margaret was very involved in the paper toile and scrap booking class- es and was Membership Chair for several years. It was Daves vision to see Acton and Georgetown Seniors Centres shar- ing more programs and interests while he was president. This has come to fruition with members being able to enjoy events at either Centre, and now joint dances and golf games. Sadly we never managed to get the fit- ness room Dave wanted, but Mary promised that if ever in the future we open a treat for her to enjoy. Members dont forget the bazaar bake table is only as good as you make it. I understand this year there will be no pre- opening sales, so there should be lots to choose from. Get out your moth- ers favourite recipe, and get baking ladies. Donna Rowley still has the of- fer open for anyone who will not be able to bake that weekend. She will be happy to store baking in her freezer and Bev is available to pick it up. We will be accepting dona- tions of crafts, paper back books and items of good quality for our grannys attic. The Spring Fashion show will be on Tues- day April 20 at 2:00 p.m. There will not only be a wonderful selection of spring clothes for you to see, as our models strut are interested in partici- pating in a focus group in Acton, please contact Halton Region by dial- ing 311, or Toll Free 1-866-442-5866.TTY 905 -827-9833. www. halton.ca. Last Tuesday Hal- ton Police Constable Laurel Barnett working with SALT gave a pres- entation to help make seniors aware of the latest scams, and what to be aware of with identity theft. Important personal information was photo- copied for them so they could keep a copy in a safe place in case they misplaced or had the originals stolen. Which is always a good idea if going on vacation or traveling. For volunteers at the Centre who were unable to attend the Accessibility for Ontarians with Dis- abilities Act information meeting, there will be a second one on Thursday April 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Hall. I know the trip to Mo- hawk to the races on June 21 is a long way off, but I need to send a cheque as soon as possible to confirm numbers. If you have your name down, can you please pay as soon as possible! The weekly 50/50 draw was not won this week, so next week it should be almost $500. one, it will be named The Dave Dodgson Room. In keeping with the French theme, we enjoyed coq au vin, Parisian pota- toes, and frenched green beans. Dessert was de- licious French pastries, and Granny Smith apples grown in France. Even the water on the tables was from France. Well done Real and your com- mittee. The music was very upbeat and romantic. A trio from Toronto, Kurt Lund on tenor sax, Nev- ille Barnes on guitar and Abbey Sholzberg on bass. The music reminded me of my younger days when we danced the fox trot, quick step and even the tango. The 50/50 was won by Bev Jones, and the door prizes (still with a French theme) were won by Anne Drysdale, Bill Sanford, Bob Leavens, Dorothy Rognvaldson, Marg Bromby, Steve Palichuk, Renata Stau- fenberger, Bob Bruce, Steve Townsley and Pat Galton. Real tells me the next dinner will have an Italian theme. Bev Jones with the Fundraising Committee announced the winners of the silent auction at the dinner. He thanked Real Tetreault, Pat Frizzell, Cassie Ladley, Pat Galton, Bev Jones and Dermot Richardson for their winning bids which con- tributed $279.38 much needed dollars to the Cen- tre. The fundraising com- mittee was very busy Tuesday morning plan- n i n g t h e u p c o m i n g Bazaar. It will be on Sat- urday May 8th. It was nice to see some new faces on the committee. Hopefully they are com- ing up with lots of fresh ideas for making it big- ger and better. I hope you have marked the date on your calendars. You might be able to pick up a gift for Mothers Day or their stuff, but door prizes and refreshments. Tick- ets are on sale now. If you arent able to get to the Centre you can purchase them at the door. Hope to see everyone there. At the Thursday after- noon Bid euchre Elma Braida had the f i rs t mooner. A representative from Halton Region asked me to mention in this column that they are having an Age Friendly focus group meeting in May. Age friendly communities enable older persons to live safely, maintain their health and participate fully in their community. Halton Regions Elder Services Advisory Com- mittee is holding focus groups with Halton sen- iors to get input on topics related to age friendly communities. They want to hear from you! If you
